The Dallas comparison to River Oaks is Preston Hollow, not Highland Park for the most part.

Memorial Villages is more Park Cities speed, since they are independent municipalities, but very different feel driving through the two of them.

Again, the lack of zoning/urban planning in Houston is a huge detriment to it and there is no way to fix it at this point. Dallas is not perfect, but it’s much better.

In general though, cities are overrated. Deteriorating infrastructure, crime, homelessness, trash, graffiti, etc. It gets tiring to deal with it all the time.

These threads are so dumb and pop up every week about a different big city.

Any big city has its problems and people will say it's great and it sucks.

NOLA, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, LA, Chicago, San Fran, DC, NYC.

I love the people in NOLA and Houston talking about how shitty the weather is in DFW. You live in freaking New Orleans, the most oppressive hot city in the south during the summer.

I like the winter because it gets cold but not too cold. It gets hot but anytime i go to Houston and NOLA its oppressive with the humidity.

A quick google search on weather history shows if you take the average high plus humidity, NOLA has the highest avg summer heat index, followed by Houston then Dallas.

Those are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing. They weren’t from there so it wasn’t home. My experience has been with friends in the rescue world which is my frustration with Texas. Harris and Montgomery Counties, east Texas, the RGV, Dallas/Ft Worth. So many strays running loose that there are feeders that go out to drop food. I can’t understand the mindset of not fixing pets or being responsible. Bc I always understood Texas to be a good place. I have family who have lived there and wish they could go back. I’ve visited many years ago and did enjoy it. But have never seen what you’ve shown. Thank you.

It’s low hanging fruit for people who need validation in their lives. Just make a post shitting on (insert city) and watch all the upvotes roll in.

I get it. They are insecure. Imagine if they actually posted where they live and gushed how great it was. They would probably be on suicide watch with people cutting them down

According to the weather channels worst climate cities in the US, Houston and NOLA are both on there. No Dallas.

Houston, Texas

It doesn’t take long for Houston to get hot. On average, Houston experiences around 100 days each year where the temperature is over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Houston is also known for having extremely high humidity, often around 90%.

Houston is also prone to severe flooding thanks to its location near the Gulf of Mexico. Most recently, the city experienced devastating damage during 2017 thanks to Hurricane Harvey. During this powerful storm, some areas of Houston saw almost ten inches of rainfall in the span of two hours.

NOLA

Let the good times roll! Well, as long as you can deal with the humidity and precipitation. New Orleans has been deemed the most humid city in America. On average, the humidity is 75.9%, with the peak being around 6 AM. It also gets on average, over 60 inches of rain per year - not to mention all of the hurricanes which persistently flood the city.

And if that weren't bad enough, New Orleans has to deal with even more kinds of severe weather aside from hurricanes. Louisiana as a whole is located in what some forecasters call "Dixie Alley"—an area of the southeast United States that is prone to violent and long-tracking tornadoes. While tornadoes in this region are less frequent than in Tornado Alley, they are often much more violent storms.

Having lived in both the Houston area in Dallas area I kinda agree with you. I think there’s a lot of appeal for people under the age of 40 to live in a big metro, but I also see why people be over 40 would prefer a more small midsize town or area.

How far are you having to drive to drop kids off? I can walk to all of the schools in my attendance zone. Now if you are commuting 20 or more miles that sucks but that sucks in any big city. My wife commutes 12 miles to work and it takes her 15-20 minutes.

It just seems there is a lot of hate for Dallas in Louisiana which is understandable because you live in a shite hole and I would be mad too

I enjoyed big cities some when I was younger, and they are ok for a visit, but I'd never want to live in one again.

When I visit my sister in NYC I can handle about 2 hours of it before I am sick of it. Do not get the appeal at all.

Visited my cousin in rural Tennessee this past weekend and that way of life is far more appealing.

I can get on board with that. I feel differently but understand completely.

Out of curiosity, do you think your life changed more since you were younger or did cities change more since you were younger?

I'm kind of that way with small towns)rural areas but I do enjoy them for a few days. But give me a walkable big city with lots of food, music, drink and other civilized convieniences for living day to day.

It’s funny you say that. We’ve lived in Texas 30 years, but grew up in Louisiana. We have good friends in Dallas that are from Louisiana and we all have talked about this topic before.

All of our family justs talk shite and rags on Texas and Dallas. I’m like “have you looked around?”

Probably me. I just don't like big crowds and things that only exist in big cities don't really interest me that much anymore. I'd probably be happiest living in a place like St Francisville, but I still have to work and I don't like commuting 45 minutes.

I'd probably enjoy living in a town with 25k or so. A few places to eat. Some medical facilities, a decent grocery store, but I'm 47 and have been married for 20+ years with mostly grown kids.

If you grew up in mountains Dallas is a shitehole. If you moved from Chicago, NYC or Louisiana it’s paradise. This topic is a case by case issue. I loved it when I was in my post grad phase but it grew stale so we moved. Both opinions are valid not sure why this guy is getting so much hate. Public golf is elite for the prices, I will say that. But there are clowns in here acting like they have a membership at Dallas National and they’re FOS
