Thanks for the advice. I just had my first son with my wife, so I won't be taking any young sloots to pound town anytime soon.

Having a kid just makes me not want to bring this cancerous shite home to him everyday.

I knew I forgot to put them in there.

CRNA is definitely nice money wise. But not being able to work while in school is tough.

Buddy of mine is going to nursing school: he's married in his mid-40s. Nursing school is a hell of a lot of work and it's tough as shite. The goal is to pass, a hospital don't give a shite if you got an A, B or C in a class.

Its a great career choice. once you are in school, you can decide on one or two areas of specialization. don't worry about it. you will find your niche.

con
work out. they are going to expect you to deal with the 300 lb women and 340 lb men. you can control that by your choices of specialization and what you really do days in your work environment.

so many areas to consider. be at peace about it.

if you re addicted now. stop now. give yourself time in AA if you need it. be serious about not using.

con
its a terrible place for addicts. My sister, a BS/RN at UC-SF, got her desired job transfer after the previous incumbent was canned for writing prescriptions for her addiction.

Hope you enjoy cleaning up patients' vomit, urine, and other bodily fluids, cleaning bedpans, wiping old peoples' arse, and getting bitched at by grumpy old people who think you took too long to bring their medicine.

Good for you and congrats. The school is tough but you figure out ways to make it manageable. You have to learn to prioritize what is important (test grades) as opposed to the bullshite work. Don't flunk a test because you were up all night doing a 5 point care plan.

Male nurse duties....

Lift every fat fricker
Diffuse every hostile fricker

You will do all the heavy lifting and labor, for your floor as well as every other floor. That is what male nurses are for.

I would recommend that you look at some folks who have been in nursing for a while. A lot of folks burn out after a few years.

Always stay ahead on studying, never wait til the day before an exam. Uworld.com is a question bank website that can help you prep for exams and the NCLEX. Watch the YouTube videos under "Nursity." The guy explains how to answer nursing style questions better than any other video or instructor I ever had, 6-7 videos total takes about 30 mins to watch. Old text books have the same info as new text books, never buy new. Find a good study group, it will get you through the program. I cant emphasize that last point enough.

I graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice and a minor in PoliSci. Neither have done anything for me.

I've been a plant baw for the past year, and worked in sales before that.

If you were expecting the degree to do something for you, you're doing it wrong. You have to do something with the degree other than working in plants.

A career change alone might not be the best plan for you if your plan is to let the degree do the work.

15 years as a rn. Best decision I made. Lots of flexibility within the field once you have that license

This would seem to be the biggest perk for me. Once you have a few years experience you'd be able to get a job just about anywhere in the United States. Get tired of one place, frickit, put some appies in and move across the country.

How old are your kids?

If they're not school age you can pick up traveling nurse gigs. There are places nobody wants to live so they pay nurses to take a three month assignment there and then go home.

The few times I poked my head into the LSU NO classrooms for nurses I always saw at least one guy getting a shoulder rub from a female classmate before the class started. Hope this helps.
