Hell I need this for my damn parents.

At least yours know how to text. My mom (72) refuses to text for some reason. Awhile back she called and asked me something, she left a VM. Later on a returned her call to give her the answer, she answered and said "I am at the doctor got to go" and hung up.

She calls me back and said "why did you call me? I was so embarrassed, my phone started ringing while the doctor was talking to me". First of all I had no idea she was at the doctor and if she would learn how to use text, I wouldn't have to call her to give her an answer to her questions, I could just send a text.

Seems like you figured out the point.

If the kid is mad at them and just doesn't want to reply, they could just reply with the middle finger emoji or something just to have their phone unlocked.
Ah yea, that'll really solve the issue with their parents.

Yeah, but we are talking about teenagers, they don't always do smart things.

However did people make it before smart phones!!!!

The same way people made it before cell phones, TV, cars, etc. You make it the world that surrounds you with the technology available at the time.

Many times I wish we could go back to the days before smart/cell phones. But that's not happening. So we may as well try adapt as best we can to the current (and ever changing) climate rather than pine for the "good old days".

Do you really think that parents of 30, 40 years ago wouldn't have wanted to regularly check on their kids if the technology (such as smartphones) was available for them to do so?

Of course, there's a line between being an overbearing helicopter parent and completely giving no shits whatsoever about what your kids are doing. The key is to find the right balance

Yep... once it's available for IPhone, he will retire.

Pretty sure I could retire if my app was successful on only android, considering Android phones represent 88% of the global market share.

Look, this app only let's the parents know their child is okay.

Suppose like brat is out way past curfew, dad texts...brat responds with middle finger. Dad can deal with brat later. But, at least believes child is not dead in a ditch somewhere.

Before you go FULL RETARD and say "kidnapper can reply"...that is beyond the scope of an app and is NOT an everyday situation. This is for the annoying times. Not the truly tragic.

I do think those are things that need to be considered. I am just looking at it from a safety issue..
You're making the same arguments my kids would make. "What if I'm lost in a bad part of town and make a wrong turn into an alley full of gangbangers in the middle of a shootout and you text me right that second?" They don't need an app to tell them to turn around. Come on man.

i was gonna get to this... if you text an answer that is not acceptable, mom or dad can relock the phone until you text an answer that is

my thing is, if you don't want your kid to be "cool", don't let them have things that make them "cool"
