I don't have a problem with this guy trying to effeminize his son. It's his kid he can do what he wants.

What I do have a problem with is this "do it yourself" trend. There wasn't an American made kitchen playset he could purchase and help fuel our failing economy? This kind of selfish "self reliance" is why we're getting our asses kicked by the Chinese.

Not at all.

Getting your son interested in a skill that he could potentially use later in life to make money = doing it right.

You're right on that topic. I listened to a podcast the other day that addressed how people totally lack empathy today due to our dependence on use of technology for everything. Personal relationships and conversations have suffered and therefore kids and young people today lack empathy.

The people attacking this guy are only interested in looking cool & edgy by being an a-hole on the internet. They really could not care less about that sort of toys this kid plays with.

This story doesn't say anything about "where we are as as country and raising our kids". All says is it's become cool & funny to be an a-hole to people you've never met and have done nothing to you. And I'd bet my last dollar that not a one of these internet trolls would have the balls to say anything to that dad's face.

Nailed it Darth. This is the kind of shitty people the internet has given birth to.

Kid might be the next Gordon Ramsey. Why poopoo a child's dream? Sounds like dude with truck nuts trying to stir up drama.

My sister got an easy bake oven for Christmas. I baked some tasty brownies as youngster. Took a little while baking using light bulbs for heat in the oven

I agree that buying your son a Barbie doll is taking it too far. But here's the thing. I don't want anyone saying how I should raise my son so I'm not going to try and tell him how to raise his. He's responsible for his son and how' he raises him. And he's the one who's going to have to live with the results when his son grows up.

I agree with this.

Just hope later on in life he teaches his son how to be a man. Broken families and sons who lack guidance from their father is major issue on why this country is so backwards right now.

Even if he's not it doesn't matter. When the frick did cooking become "gay" or "feminine?" It's not 1950. Hell, in this state most men pride themselves on their cooking skills. The people making those comments are just internet trolls. Nothing more.

I don't have a problem with the kitchen play set. There are lots of good male cooks out there.

However, I have a problem with this...

quote:

Furthermore, if my kid wanted a barbie doll I would get it for him. If that is what he wants, then that is what he wants. Its his decision what he wants to play with. Not mine.

Wrong, you are the parent. What if your kid wants to play with matchsticks? What if he loves to play in the street? Part of being a parent is teaching right from wrong. Each set of parents get to determine what their values are, but don't be afraid to raise a child, and not just let them do as they please.

Going WAY too far

why? I played with barbies with my sister growing up. I would wear tutus and pretend to be a ballerina. They are fricking kids. Let them have fun.

My daughter plays with robots and dinosaurs right now. Is that wrong? Should I not buy her "boy" toys?

The backlash seems so foreign to me, after being raised in the south and in Louisiana. Most of the men I know take great pride in being able to cook some of the best meals in the world. Almost every big gathering I have participated in, included at least some items prepared by the men. It's a great legacy to pass down to ones son and to pass down in Louisiana.

Also it's great the dad took the time to build his son something he knew he would enjoy. That's being a good dad for your kid.

I'm a pretty good cook and love to do it. I try out new recipes all the time and tweak them to my liking. It was always taught to me that proper Southern Louisiana men should always know how to cook for a crowd i.e. jambalya, etouffee, etc.

And I'm far from gay.

People suck.

so fricking stupid. if this was a girl getting the kitchen, you wouldn't be all "oh man, this is the start of her great career making bank"... but since the kid has a penis, its all of a sudden about "he's going to be a master chef and make that bank roll and its all starting with this girly kitchen". That's a more sexist attitude than just calling this shite gay like it is.

You're a miserable person.

A kid having an interest in cooking is not gay. That is ridiculous. Cooking is awesome and a great skill to have in life, whether you make money or not. I pride myself on my cooking when we have guests over.

The bold line doesn't really fit with what you're trying to say here.

Darth and NIH have pretty much got this nailed.

People with actual lives aren't anonymously jumping this guy on the internet. Just the losers that, in a simpler time, would have had no other choice but to stay invisible.

Now they've got a "voice".

except you just said their values were wrong

2 yr olds are interested in anything at that age. Dad also said he would buy his kid a barbie. I feel like dad is looking for an attention fight.

That dad did a hell of a job and cooking is neither masculine nor feminine and is a life skill everyone should know.
