Any suggestions for an affordable tailored suit?

Get your measurements and I can send you the email address to my tailor in Korea.

The only thing bad about this is that you don't get a fitting before it is completed.

You're approaching "I work on Wall St" levels of obnoxiousness about suits right now. Let it go.

I have two suites from them. Good quality for the price and I get compliments on them.

I can attest for the quality of CombatGent as well. I was skeptical but I thought for the price I'd try it anyway. The suits have some weight to them and I always get compliments.

Friend of mine swears by SuitSupply.com

This is a guy who wears a suit almost daily and is pretty picky about it.

There is plenty of really good options that are not really expensive but are also not cheap.

Show me where I disagreed with the above. Quote it, please. I agree with the above, just not that a $200 suit fits into that category. It's simply not possible with a suit because of the time/materials that goes into making the bare minimum "quality" suit. With suits, a few hundred dollars more and you can fit the "not cheaply made, but not expensive in price" category. It doesn't take $2000 or even close, but $200 isn't it either.

quote:

You are one of the idiots who buys something because it is expensive and thinks it is the best while turning your nose up to everything else.

How do you know what I wear? I can assure you that I don't buy things simply because they are expensive. I buy cheap shite (for the most part), but I call it what it is...cheap shite. I have a few nice things for when I'm serious about what I am doing, but by and large, I allocate my financial resources elsewhere.

quote:

Some people cannot afford to go drop hundreds and thousands on a suit yet so why bash them for trying to look good and move up?

I haven't bashed them. I wear cheap clothes. $30 Levis and $6 t-shirts 99% of the time. But I don't say, "I paid $30 for these Levi's, which are quality jeans and look just as good as those expensive $500 jeans"...because they don't. They are cheap, $30 jeans and that's what I call them.

I also drive a piece of shite vehicle, because what I drive isn't important to me. But I don't act like it's in the same league as a nice luxury vehicle.

Just call apples "apples" and oranges "oranges", that's all.

Yah I feel that my Hugo boss suits are better than what 90% of the guys I come across in my work and social scene wear but obviously the commodities big shots in Chicago are rocking true tailors and much finer labels / quality work.

Maybe one day - but IMO the styles change so damn fast that it might not make sense to spend much more than the $700 or so (on a $1700 retail suit) that I'm currently doing. For example, my favorite ever suit is a Hugo Boss black w really subtle pinstripes - it was so cool and it's only 20 months old. Yet I'm noticing that it's no longer as cool as it was - it's not fitted enough and I'm way more comfortable wearing it to important work events now than I was when I first got it bc it's not nearly as "fashion forward" as it was just 2 years ago.

Ditto w jeans and dress shirts FWIW but obviously the price points are much lower on those

I wasn't meaning to knock your jacket I was just more or less stating that a lot of the big brand names just sell because of their name. As long as it looks good on the person it doesn't matter who made it or how much it cost.

You never disagreed but you are implying that everything has to be ridiculous and are coming across like a grade A asshat.

Did they leave off a zero on the price, or are they really $200 suits?

Good quality =/= $200.
been using CG since their infancy. now have a good amount of their suits.

it's not a thousand dollar quality suit, but since when do you need something like that?

CG is perfect for the young professional or someone that just wants a decent quality suit for a good price.

Someone mentioned Hugo Boss at Saks and the like, but don't overlook good sales on higher quality suits at places like Nordstrom or Dillards.

Especially if you just need more suits (not necessarily staples) and are flexible with pattern, you can steadily pick up Hickey Freeman or HSM trumpeter suits for half off.

Well...if that's your level of reading comprehension and general understanding, then I can't help you.

It's not rocket science.

Arguing AGAINST something does not automatically equal arguing FOR something else. Saying that it's not possible to make a quality $200 suit doesn't mean that I'm saying it takes thousands to do so.

Saying that it's not possible to make a quality $200 suit doesn't mean that I'm bashing anyone who chooses to wear one. I'm simply arguing the facts regarding a $200 suit. That's all. The counter-arguments have all been appeals to emotion.

Serious? Do you want a decent looking suit that is cut to your specifications or a cheap baggy sheet with buttons on it? If the former, go with Indochino. If the latter, stick with Joseph Bank.

I'm glad you like them. I haven't disagreed with any of the above with the exception of "decent quality." The only thing "quality" about a $200 suit is the fact that it only cost the buyer $200.

"Good Value" would be a better way to say it.

This is my go-to right now, but I typically go to one of their stores here in NYC and try on in person.

There's a ton of options online. You can get a good deal at Dillard's now and then and they'll tailor for free.
