This is Theistic Evolution, ie the official teaching of the Catholic Church. It acknowledges the Theory of Evolution as fact, but says we were imparted with a soul the second man became "man".

Stating it like this is a little misleading. I'm pretty sure that the Catholic Church does not officially support evolution as fact, but it does say that evolution is "compatible with the faith." It's a little more nuanced.

it gives the entire story of how he created man, it says nothing about evolving from all kind of different animals.

This argument is retarded and pointless... People could interpret the passage: Genesis 2:7 King James Version (KJV)

'And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.'

Well... The dust of the ground does have micro-organisms like bacteria, protozoans etc... So yeah... we did evolve with the help of God's nostrils...

See?

The Big Bang, which nowadays is posited as the origin of the world, does not contradict the divine act of creating, but rather requires it. The evolution of nature does not contrast with the notion of creation, as evolution presupposes the creation of beings that evolve. -- Pope Francis

quote:

Currently, I see in Germany, but also in the United States, a somewhat fierce debate raging between so-called "creationism" and evolutionism, presented as though they were mutually exclusive alternatives: those who believe in the Creator would not be able to conceive of evolution, and those who instead support evolution would have to exclude God. This antithesis is absurd because, on the one hand, there are so many scientific proofs in favour of evolution which appears to be a reality we can see and which enriches our knowledge of life and being as such. But on the other, the doctrine of evolution does not answer every query, especially the great philosophical question: where does everything come from? And how did everything start which ultimately led to man? I believe this is of the utmost importance. -- Pope Benedict

What does the old testament have to do with Christ? Prophecy and poetry don't matter when the Messiah and his early followers are covered in the New Testament.

If you're so focused on the Old Testament that you lose sight of the sermon on the mount, the parables, the calling of fellowship then youre really practicing a bastardized form of Judaism.

And yes, this is true.

It is officially taught in Catholic Schools as fact, but there is no "official position".

None of that states that evolution is fact. It is still just supporting the idea of "compatibility with the faith." Like I said, it's a little more nuanced than saying that the Catholic Church supports evolution as fact. It is more so saying that the Catholic Church as official position believes that evolution is a perfectly reasonable explanation for an aspect of the mechanics of life, but we're currently trying to stay out of the business of science, at least on this issue.

It's a pretty reasonable and responsible position for a religion to take. It's one of the things that the Catholic church has done right, imo.

you cant believe in the bible and also believe we started out as tadpoles or whatever evolutionists believe.

This is a tacit admission that you don't even have a base level understanding of evolution, yet here you are, attempting to argue it's validity.

Old Testament law was to point people towards Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came and fulfilled Old Testament law, replacing it with the Gospel. Jesus Christ's two commandments .... that Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.... replace the 10 commandments in that if you keep those two, then you will keep the 10 commandments.

Agreed. The OT pointed to Christ. The NT looks back. We are still living in the NT because Revelation hasn't happened yet

Still trying to wrap my head around this since I thought the Old Testament was just as important as the New Testament since they are both "The Bible". The OT points them to Jesus, but then what? His death absolved the sins of the world (right?), but what about the people who lived and died before Jesus? Did they all end up in hell since everyone is a sinner?
