They were built over 2000 years before the Romans. So the Romans looked back to them as we do to the Romans

And the Egyptians looked at the Sumerians the way we do the Dark Ages.

This subject opens a Pandora's box of crackpot opinions, studies, reports, and theories that make the Kennedy assassination look like reading Dr. Seuss...but we still don't have an explanation that has settles it once and for all.

Personally, I believe the launching of the James Webb is going to be the beginning of a turning point in "knowledge" concerning everything from the beginning of our civilization to our perception of reality itself.

probably vastly different. The vast majority of people had no accurate sources of information, so everything they heard amounted to legends, exaggerations, and fiction.

Someone on Tigerdroppings quoted something about Cleopatra lived closer to the time of Twitter than the building of the pyramids.

I wouldn't have thought that.

Cleopatra and Julius Caesar are closer in time to the building of the Luxor pyramid in Las Vegas than to the building of the pyramids in Giza... by something like 4 or 5 hundred years. They were born about 2500 years after the pyramids were built.

The pyramids are fricking ANCIENT.

Edit: and China thinks its cute that we think 4500 years of history is a long time

Mammoths still roamed when they were built. Crazy something that massive was built so long ago.
