Restaurants put an upcharge on the food ordered through these platforms to help recoup some of the fees they have to pay the platforms. It's another reason its so expensive for the consumer.

I knew this really trashy girl who is a single mother with two kids who drives DoorDash, and she tells stories just like these on social media in an effort to drum up sympathy for herself, but all her stories do is make her look like a trashy dumbass. I don’t know if this is her, but it easily could be if this happened in Louisiana

$6 minimum for me to go pick up an order. I wouldn't take one next door for $3.50.

Same.

People think you're being an a-hole. I don't care if you tip nothing, because it isn't my issue. If you don't tip, your food will be delivered by a car that stinks like shite by someone who doesn't speak English, won't follow your directions, and will drop your food off in the wrong spot.

Ordering food delivered in always makes me think of Jesse Jackson acknowledging that he was spitting in the food of his customers. Don't need the thought let alone the deed.

Wait… you think you can’t get into a hotel lobby without a room key?

There are definitely hotels out there that will let you in the first set of sliding doors and not the second without a room key. Usually they have a window for the night attendant to interact with people however.

The more I hear food delivery stories, the less comfortable I am about trusting them with my food.

Most professions require that you do multiple things. Most professions don't ask that tips supplement wage. I participate but will never understand how industry has conned the consumer into paying for goods/services while also subsidizing the labor cost. It's like a bank charging you a fee to borrow your money.

Also known as capitalism. If people will pay it then there you go.

I’m default generous with proper tips but will tip little or nothing for BS.

You can adjust the tip after the fact.

I saw many times untipped food didn't get picked up period.

I rarely use. If I'm using it I feel really lazy and am craving something specific.
My $30 Chinese order cost $57 on door dash with tip. But it's worth it for convenience. I tip at least $10 I want a driver to want to take my order.

waiters want 20% tip to walk your food normally about 25 feet.

doordash brings your food miles from a restaurant to your location with much more headaches and tipping just feels so dirty.

Waiters are paid less than minimum wage in many cases based on expected tips as allowed per federal law. Delivery drivers do not fall under that umbrella. Based on what I see online, Door Dash drivers make about $15 per hour or more on average without tips. They do have to pay for their own gas, but conversely, they can pick up multiple orders (I think) that deliver in the same area and minimize their travel per order. I know there are some guys who supplement this way on here, please correct any errors I have.

TLDR: Waiters are different than delivery services, mostly due to pay.
