As a fellow DD'er you're a thorough and informative son of a bitch.

Even though, I've thought about everything you've said in this whole thread multiple multiple times

This isn't remotely true. I don't beg for tips. I just don't take trips that don't pay. The problem is DD gets the customer to pay for the drivers. I don't view it as a tip or no tip. I view it as a bid for my delivery services. If the bid is too low then I don't go.

Which is how everyone should view it. Of course it's catch-22 because if they didn't have people taking the lowball offers, it wouldn't be worth it to operate DoorDash in the 1st place.

Customers don't get it because if they haven't dashed, they think "Pizza deliver is usually inexpensive, why shouldn't other food be the same." But ask that same person if they will go get food for a stranger. Get dressed, crank the car, use the gas, fight traffic, pick up the food, and deliver it to someone else. Are they doing it for $6? I'd think not. But if a dasher sees $6 on a delivery they take, that's not so bad because they are doing it in volume.

I'm of the opinion that having food delivered to your door with the press of a button is such a luxury, if you wanted it done with utmost professionalism and directions followed precisely, you have to pay a lot more than delivery fees. Which, coincidentally, works itself out. I treat every food order like my own. I use the hot bag, I make sure everything is present, I only do doubles if the addresses are near, etc. But I also require a higher tip than most (I think).

That's because we lived it and are able to see both sides. I see why everyone gets pissed off, and there's really no good solution. If you want food delivery done right it's expensive. If it's expensive the demand plummets.

How many lifetime deliveries do you have?

Right at 1600. Most of those before I got my fulltime job after school.

I doordashed during the pandemic to pick up extra cash.

If tips aren't up to your liking then get another job. You should not be begging for more of a tip.

I'm not begging for anything and agree the driver in the OP was way out of line. But at the same time, if you don't want to tip go pick up the food yourself. It's ridiculous to expect someone to deliver your food to you for no tip.

quote:

From a quick google and I could be wrong, Doordash drivers make $25 per hour plus 100% of the tips.

You would be wrong. Except during peak hours drivers make $2.50 to $3 per delivery. It's impossible to make $25hr just on DD pay. Three deliveries per hour is avg if you're getting a lot of offers. So closer to $9/hr plus tips (-gas). And 100% of a $2 tip isn't anything to write home about.

quote:

Some orders are incredibly expensive, but I don't think that means the delivery driver deserves more for their particular services.

That's a choice you make when ordering. You are paying for convenience. If it's too expensive go get the food yourself. Simple. Don't be a cheapskate to the person delivering your food to you.

quote:

These drivers, from my understanding, have the right to accept a lot of these deliveries. Often they can see the tip ahead of time.

That's true. My acceptance rate was about 25%. I never took a no tip order. Not many $3 or below tips unless the delivery was really close. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't do the right thing and give a proper tip to someone doing something for you that you're too lazy to do for yourself.

I mean tip or just go pick it up.

It's eye opening for sure. What the OP should have done was call DoorDash support and told them exactly what happened and that you felt harassed and in danger when they wanted you to come out.

It's literally no problem to get into any hotel as long as you have your red DD hot bag with food in it. I had a doubled up order once to pickup a 12 pack of beer at the liquor store and then pick up hotwings. I didn't realize it was going to the same person because I hadn't understood how to manipulate the DD app yet. So I delivered the Hot wings up to the 4th floor of this hotel. Big momma came out wearing her night clothes. She asked where her beer was and I was like.... ohhhh that's yours too? I clicked the order complete and moved to the next order and sure enough it was hers. She offered to come down and get it. I said no way... it's my job to get it to you. I ran down and grabbed it and when I came back... she already had red sauce on her lips. Big girl tipped me another $5 in cash.

Hotels may seem weird at first, but in reality it's just another delivery. The people at the front desk have seen it all already. They know you're just doing a job.

Nice. Like I said, I'm around 500 deliveries. I would still be doing it on the side because I get off my real full time job about 1 in the afternoon. But... I use my personal vehicle already for my job now and I'm not going to keep racking up more miles on it with DoorDash

One of my most memorable DD experiences:

I took an order and was delivering it to a concierge at a very nice hotel in Fairhope. Seconds after I take the order, I receive a phone call from another DoorDash driver. He placed the order for his GF as a surprise and asked if I would sing her happy birthday, and he would give me $10 bucks in addition to the $5 he already tipped. I walked my happy arse in there, handed her the food, sang happy birthday very awkwardly, videoed it and sent it to him. She turned beet red and was very embarrassed and everyone shared a good chuckle, including waiting guests.

My very next order, I happened to run into him in a restaurant as he was DD'ing then too. Never saw him before that and never seen him since. Good times

I just don’t think the customer should care. DoorDash shouldn't be in business if they can't pay their drivers enough to make the job worthwhile. Service industry people need to redirect their ire towards their employers.

Like I said, I have no ire. If the money is there, I take the order. If it isn't, I don't. It's simple.

But if the customer doesn't care, then let the customer not care all the way. Because I see threads on here all the time where the customer does care, but it's because they feel like they're getting shortchanged on delivery when their food arrives cold, or some driver is shitty. You pay what, a $3 service charge, $2 delivery fee, and then tip. If you tip $3, that's $8 total. To get food delivered to your door. You don't have to leave the house, you press a button and a burger arrives at your doorstep. Of course there's gonna be some issue with that at an $8 price point.

Be angry about it, I still get mine. I've said it in these threads for years, when DoorDash doesn't make sense for me I won't bitch about low pay. I'll stop dashing. But for some reason it seems like customers don't take the same perspective. I don't order from Doordash anymore because, ironically, I also think it's not worth it. I'd rather go pick my food up. But I don't come on here and bitch about it.

All this said, I remain steadfast in my point that the Dasher the OP got should be reported.

I have enjoyed all the info in this thread provided by the DoorDash drivers, but I will ask the question that everyone on the OT wants to know: any real life experiences with horny housewives who want to tip you with something other than $$? Or has PornHub been lying to us?

So then you ring the doorbell or buzzer and the front desk person will see that you’re delivering food and let you in. They can see the front door from the front desk or on their cameras.

OP’s driver was just a POS.

Why is there not an automatic cost applied to the distance delivered and time of day? Similar to uber? Its just flat delivery rate and tip? That seems absurd.

If you order food from 20 miles away it should automatically cost more to pay the drive then if you order food from across the street of your hotel you just don't want to leave the hotel room because the game is on.

I know there's not a perfect scenario as drivers distance matters also.
