Give me a platter of potatoes and I’ll be happier than a kid in a candy store

Stop eating them for a year.
Prices will come down.

Fair enough.
However in years past, the crawfish industry seemed to use any an every excuse available to promote a bad season and/or prices being high.

I never BUY boiled crawfish at a restaurant
Go catch some myself in the ditches on the 4 wheeler and boil em myself

Frank's red hots are the same as sausage after boiling.

I’m so tired of hearing about crawfish prices
We used to get them for free
All you needed was big rake and a big ditch in the spring

This.
Too much rain, not enough rain, too hot, too cold, groundhog saw his shadow, groundhog didn’t see his shadow.
It would seem like there is some mythical optimal weather for a great crawfish season and that those conditions will never be achieved.

So tell us about last year and the extremely low prices of crawfish. And that’s with the price of everything else being up a lot

Average prices to the farmer have lowered every year the last 3 years even with rising input costs. Y’all really should do yalls homework instead of just saying the same thing over and over again.

So bankrupting producers, middle men and retailers/restaurants causing less crawfish to be on the market and places to buy them the following years will cause prices to drop?
You need to get your IQ checked after actually posting such a shitty take. Get some help.

They can't come up with anything factual. Just the same old tired lines they chant repeatedly. The OT gonna OT IMO.

Unpopular opinion..but, Crawfish is the most overrated food in Louisiana..

It is helping some but the problem is the drought just killed a big chunk of the early crawfish that we should be catching right now. The damage is already done. It definitely doesn’t hurt to get rains weekly. Every front that passes cause crawfish to molt which means they are growing. It takes 11 molts for a crawfish to grow big enough to consume.
If it takes a crawfish 3 months to grow to size, shouldn't we start seeing a rather large uptick soon? Sure, the early crawfish weren't there, but the drought shouldn't affect crawfish in late February/early March.
Are we going to be in a situation where farmers/buyers are going to attempt to "catch up" when the numbers actually increase and keep prices higher than normal?

When female crawfish emerge from their burrows carrying babies under their tails in the fall to release them this would normally be the case.
This year those crawfish failed to emerge as usual by and large due to high mortality rates in their burrows caused by the drought coupled with extremely high temperatures.
On top of that, because their burrows contain no food and the emergence was delayed until sufficient rains came very late, some females may have cannibalized their young in order to survive the extended burrow period.
Although some young of the year hatchlings survived, it is unknown yet how this will reduce the overall seasonal yield total. The experts with LSU are out in the field actively sampling ponds for young crawfish and in many cases see very little or none at all in some cases.
Top all of that off with tens of thousands of acres not being actively fished due to economic factors and tens of thousands more not even flooded due to water quality issues. So your analogy may not apply to this season's catch but late season results remains to be seen.

It'll be hard for anybody in the industry to "catch up" at this point except perhaps the deepwater fishermen should the basin recieve the water and timing it needs. It's just too bad of a start to overcome and indicators being observed currently point the wrong direction for this become an "average" season.
Despite smaller than usual waves of crawfish maturing later in spring when waters warm, you can't catch and sell what is by and large not there. Taken into account the early Lent and Easter, and it sets this season up for disaster for the crawfish industry.
