The food didn't change?
Yes, it has. They've screwed with the menu plenty over the last decade which has resulted in less traffic. Nobody wants to be served room temperature meatloaf at 6pm that was cooked at 6am and was sitting in a warmer all day just because its more "efficient" for the corporate margins.
Also, they added booze to their menu and shove a drink menu in your face at 8am when you just want breakfast, something that made them unique was the lack of alcohol and enhanced a family atmosphere. That addition of booze was of course added in by Girlboss CEO.

The people working there didn't change?
Yes, they have - now instead of clean cut people working there its the trashy crowd with visible tattoos and face piercings. The service has become infinitely worse as a result of bringing in these people - serving cold food and not being timely with refills. Last time I went i was given one cup of coffee. Thats it - no offers for a refill the entire visit. I mentioned it to the cashier and she stated that was part of the new servers guidelines was to limit refills at every possible turn on tables with less than 5 guests.

But they changed the logo!
...and remodeled the restaurants into bland corporate boringness, as well as taking out a lot of items in their gift shops in favor of modern style holiday decorations.

Go visit the Slidell store - it went from one of tge best stores in the CB network to looking like a dull Cane's with a Spirit Halloween gift shop. The execs decided that their new shitty menu and shitty service wasn't what drove the customers away, but the brown antique covered walls and quilts in the gift shops.

Its the classic example of hiring people to run your struggling business that wouldn't have been caught dead patronizing that business before they took over.

I think it was a marketing ploy. Get people talking about a new look and a new vision, let the outrage build for a week, and then bring it back. That will be good for about 2 weeks of free advertising.

Your average Cracker Barrel if you poll the customers walking in at any given moment is probably 80% to 85% conservative. They had to have foreseen this. Yeah, I'd get in their stock right when early market opens on NYSE (can't imagine they are on Nasdaq).

If anyone at Cracker Barrel corporate was smart enough to predict that half the men in the south would lose their goddamned minds over a chain restaurant redecorating decision I'm not even mad at them.

I haven't been since walking out on trying to get a meal and giving up after an hour of waiting and them twice saying they lost the order. Their food had really started to go downhill and B's and C's on their govt scores was normal. No thanks.

^this is why their sales have declined. Not their customer base “dying off”, not their decor becoming dated, not the sign out front.

I get it mortality is scary stuff. But yeah their base dies off daily and all those things you love about CB have zero appeal to younger people. Zero.

Do you know the stated reason so many Piccadilly's have closed? their core customer base is dying off at a staggering rate and younger people think cafeteria dining is stupid and they hate the food choices there.

Things change is the only constant in this life.

Didn’t they pay something
like $700 million to rebrand their company?

So many hilarious observations here:

1) We were told by the usual suspects nothing would happen due to the outrage by the boomer hillbillies that no longer eat there.

2) They STILL are not addressing the main issue, which is that they changed their menu and the food sucks.

3) Purposely Killing off Americana nostalgia and replacing it with propaganda pisses off more than just boomer hillbilly rednecks, apparently.

You couldn’t be more wrong. If Cracker Barrel’s customer base was going to die off, it would have done so by the 1980s or 90s because the atmosphere they’ve fostered is really from the 1930s to 1950s rural South. What really has happened though is over the years as adults bring their children and grandchildren to Cracker Barrel those kids then grow up and take their kids there to have the same experience they had during their childhood. Cracker Barrel is built for families, specifically rural and suburban families. It doesn’t cater to the mythical “single urban youth” demographic. They’re never going to go to Cracker Barrel. No amount of redesign or adding alcohol to the menu will change that. Cracker Barrel isn’t for date night, if for taking your family out to eat.

I'm not going to feed my family that slop no matter how many two man handsaws they have on the wall.

CBs base is old white people (just like Piccadilly or Lubys). Take a look at incender.com/babyboomer_deathclock. A boomer dies every 14 seconds, 6,000 will die today (a 24 hour period) and those numbers accelerate daily because of age.

Its a broken model because their customers have aged out (died or will die soon).

And as bad as the food is they better serve booze, you need to be about halfway in the bag to eat that crap.
