Here is how the scam works. They ride him for the monthly check as long as they can. If he keeps paying, she will stay there. When he finally demands she come to the US she will. She will cook, clean and occasionally give up the goods while she gets her Permanent Status. Once that happens, she stops having sex with him and petitions to get her family admitted to the US. Once they are here, she filed for divorce and takes half his shite. Seen this before from two of my coworkers. Same exact scenario.

Reminds me of a friend of a friend who bought his Colombian fiance (met online) a huge engagement ring before she moved here.
Ring and fiance were never seen again.

I would move my cubicle as far from him as possible. And make sure you are near a fire exit.

they got "married" in GINA. for all he knows it was official. It could have been all part of the scam. Maybe the marriage was a sham. Maybe she has 10 husbands?

Your "coworker" is an idiot

What a dumb loser. This is a beta move that spans international waters.

I work at a bank also. We have had customers get loans for $20k or more at a time to send over to their "brides". It happens to women also. One lady sold her car to send money. It's really sad but you can't save people from themselves

Is this one of these fake OT stories, smells like it.
They married in China? Is he legally married in anyway in the US. If not he should walk away and try Russia instead.

Why would she marry him if it is a scam though?

There are several red flags here.
First of all, if they got married in the US, instead of in China, she would be eligible for a Green Card immediately. 99.9% of women want to come to the US to get married, not the other way around.
Also, getting a Visa to visit here from China isn't hard. He can just have his boss sign something saying his company wants to bring her in to discuss business or something. It's routine.
He needs to make an appointment with the US consulate near where she lives. He flies over there and goes with her to the appointment with the consular. She either leaves there with a Visa, or she blows off the appointment and doesn't show.
Either way, he'll know.
I don't know all of the specifics. Just that he married her in China and she has never been to the US. I can ask these questions though. He loves talking about it. I'll get some more info and post it.
I really do feel bad for this guy. I invited him fishing and he always says he can't go because of his second job. Another co-worker invited him to the strip club and he replied "no, because I'm married."

Lol smh.
But yea, you're probably right.

You wouldn't be the only coworker with one.
I've met 4 that have done it since I have been here and they were all very open about it. And I am pretty sure I am sitting close to number 5.
However, none of them have had issues bringing them to this country. All 4 that I am sure of were very happy with their decision and it have been over the number of years for them to be able to divorce and keep a visa. I think all of them had kids from it too.

I had dealings with one of the nerdiest engineers back in the 90s that got one from Russia. She came over, they got married and it lasted about 6 months.

In reading these types of threads on several boards through the years, it seems like the scam rate is about 80%. Obviously, avoid the Russians. Not sure which asians are most trustworthy. There is a gross old dirty arse client of mine who got burned once on this, so now just goes to Thailand or wherever and bangs them for a few weeks, then comes home. That's probably the right play unless you really want chirrens.

How old is she? He should've had her here on a visa and married her here.
Posted on 2/10/17 at 9:24 am to ctiger69
Why not get a lawyer to do the visa work?

Former coworker married a Russian woman while over there on a construction project. Jumped through a bunch of hoops and finally got her to the States and established as a legal resident. Went smooth for a while until she turned up the heat on getting some of her relatives moved here. Whole thing derailed and cost the guy a load of money. Not uncommon from other stories I've heard.

sorry for the hijack, but my girlfriend is 23/f/canada. we instant message after i get home from work almost every day, but it's hard because ya know how it's night time in canada while it's day time here. i bought her a promise ring and got her a webcam so we could finally skype, but she can't figure out how to hook it up lol. i don't wanna have to get aggressive and ask for her number, but i'm starting to get impatient.
