Even back to some it's earliest history, Mandeville was an escape for people wanting to get out of New Orleans, but not be too far away. Steamboats would travel back and forth across the lake for people wanting to get away. The same exists today, but life is much easier to live now outside of NOLA and still work and be connected to the city in the ways you want.

maybe for old folks with kids

Why you gotta ruin the opportunity to experience NOLA for your kids?

Yup, keeping it form become Bogalusa.

You say how easy it is to drive across the bridge but that the number 1 excuse I hear from family, friends, and coworks for not doing things.

"you want to grab a beer after work"

"nah I got to drive the bridge"

"You want to go to the fairgrounds today"

"Nah I got to drive the bridge "

"You coming over for the Super Bowl party"

"Nah I got to drive the bridge"

I'd move there

It's still too damn far away from the stuff I like to do.

All of that can also be said as "I would like to be closer to home", which was taken into account when most people decided to move to the Northshore.

Can I make every single event on the southshore, no..but it doesn't mean I don't do anything. Poeple still get beers after work, they still go to Super Bowl Parties and when they want to go to the southshore, they do.

What about your kids? You gonna let them go to a concert or festival etc. on the southshore after dark?

Yeah, that's the problem. It's not far away, but far enough that nobody does the fun everyday things. You go if there's a reason to go. A show. An appointment. Dinner. But, just hanging out is not all that common. That's the stuff that I miss around here. Not too many fun everyday things to do. And the people are different. When we go across the lake, I relax. Because it doesn't feel like it's see and be seen time everywhere you go. That's my biggest aggravation here.

When I lived in NOLA I lived in Algiers, Harvey, Harahan, & Metairie and for the most part it takes 15-25 minutes to get most places anyway.

There are areas of New Orleans that don't take 15-25 minutes to get to most places. I'm within 15-25 minutes walking distance of most places that I frequent. For the places that are a bit further, I'm usually less than a 10 minute drive.

It depends on her behavior. She will have the trust she earns. I didn't go to midweek concerts or festivals except during the summer (unless it was something for school) so I would imagine I would start with the same premise. But, if more or less tust is earned I can adapt accordingly.

I was driving the causeway as a junior in high school and see no reason why my daughter can't if she proves she can handle the responsibility.

So why is it safe to go out in NOLA after dark but not safe to live there?

Is it just the law of averages?

Like drinking alcohol...I mean, that's the only real issue here.

I don't like going to pelicans games during the week because I go to bed early and likely wouldn't go if I lived in the city. When I had Saints Season tickets I would sell almost all of my Monday/Sunday night tickets because I just hate being out that late during the week.

That's the scary part right there. Those kids that grow up on the NS never get exposed to the real world. They get to college and boom.

Maybe it's just their polite way of saying they don't want to hang with you.

Can't really be marginalized into a single question or answer. Different events in different parts of the city on different nights can be quite different in terms of how "safe" they are.

I mean, crime (especially violent crime) is more prevalent in NOLA. So is theft, vandalism, etc. So, when i say safe I just don't mean safety that I may not be attacked.

Sounds like you've found the best place for you. Let me know when you have those Saints night game tickets.
