That almost seems like a deal killer for me. Right now my kids are in excellent public schools. The tuition alone at St. Pauls is $8100/kid/year. I've got two school aged kids and another that is about 2.5 years away from kindergarten. $16,200 is a lot of money for school.

Absolutely. West Saint Tammany in general is the best place to live in the state of Louisiana. Some will argue, but they are wrong.

Covington High is kinda trashy... so may have to send kids to St Pauls. But if job is in Covington you can live in Mandeville and drive a few minutes to work. You want to be in Mandeville school district for sure.

No crime in Mandeville or Covington really

yes, i would leave the Woodlands for the northshore area

Live in Mandeville if you don't want to pay for private school.

Absolutely this. Lived in Mandeville for 10 years and worked in Covington. It's awesome. No crime and schools are fantastic.

I just moved back to BR and miss Mandeville quite a bit. Especially Pelican Park. Plus your car insurance will go down.

Would you leave The Woodlands?

Absolutely. The Woodlands were kinda bland for my tastes, but if you leave the Woodlands expecting the same thing in Louisiana, you are very mistaken. The Covington/Mandeville area is nothing like it, so don't even think about that. That area basically consists of several areas combined into one:

Madisonville: small town, ruralish, has a bit of a country feel, a little suburban as well.

Covington: has an old downtown main street area with bars and restaurants. Also home to a nice brewery, but the high school is pretty meh.

Mandeville: basically a southern beach town on Lake Pontchartrain complete with little boutiques, bars, and cafe's. Lots of old New Orleans money moved there and built spacious mansions along the lake. Outstanding public schools.

In between the towns runs the Tammany Trace, a walking/biking trail that runs the length of the parish following an old rail line.

There also numerous subdivisions between each town.

South of 12 and west of 190 to be even more specific. My older son went to Tchefuncta Middle and 1 year of Mand. Jr. high. He is at St. Pauls now and was well prepared.

Covington/Mandeville (referred to as the Northshore by locals) is awesome.

low crime, nice neighborhoods, good schools, good restaurants, quick ride across the causeway to NOLA, hour to Baton Rouge, fishing/hunting all around the area, 45 minutes to the coast

Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville are all within five minutes of each other so you can choose from any of them.

Mandeville or Madisonville is much better than Covington, but the Northshore is the best place in the state of LA to raise a family, IMO.

I would not live any other place in LA today. I don't know if I would leave the Houston area for the Northshore, but it is certainly the best place to live in LA.
