COVID-19 observation after being in 4 clinics/hospitals in the last week...

Far from being overwhelmed, Ochsner's medical facilities are UNDERwhelmed, almost ghost towns.
Got something in my eye while gardening on Good Friday and it got badly infected and inflamed. Went to Ochsner urgent care on Saturday. No wait to see anyone (compared to last December when I accidentally cut open my finger and needed stitches, and had to wait an hour and a half just to get into exam room).
Follow-up with Optometrist Monday at Metairie clinic, no wait, no patients. CT scan of eye at Ochsner Belle Chasse hospital, had to enter through their Emergency Room. Not busy at all, no patients there. Opthamologist then saw me at the Belle Terre clinic; there was one other patient there in waiting room.
Went to main campus three times for eye ultrasound, more eye analysis and follow-ups. No one in line at labs for blood work or urine tests. The parking garages are empty, the halls are bare. Barely any patients at all.
Oh, and they take your temperature, and give you a mask to wear upon entering. All staff are supposed to wear them, but I saw a bunch of staff not bothering to wear them on their face. Rode up the elevator with a nurse who didn't even have one AT ALL.
Take from that what you will...

My observation from reading the second paragraph is that you are a danger to yourself and those around you.

All of that has been done intentionally. Hospitals are where people get sick. Keep everyone out who doesnt need to be seen emergently so that those who do need to be there have minimized exposure risk.
Hospital clinics are all almost entirely virtual now.
You can walk around a hospital for minutes at a time without seeing anyone. But as soon as you pass the checkpoint to get into an isolation unit, it's like a beehive.

They’re empty on purpose. No elective procedures or routine visits being done; again, on purpose.

I work for Ochsner. I was on several leadership calls today where we were told the system lost $40million in March, and we are projected to lose over $90million in April.
As of next week, employees are now forced to use all vacation time since its a liability on the balance sheet. At least there are no layoffs yet.

Always thought working on the medical side of things would be a safe job to have . We had a similar staff call today where they have switched all salary folks to hourly in case the need arises to cut hours. We have had to log everything we have done over the last 2 weeks. I'm in I.T. and you better believe i been making sure i'm showing 40 plus hours of work per week on that time sheet . havent made us use PTO yet though. Our management is doing everything possible to keep us paid . I hope the next few weeks are positive on the virus front for everyone.

Only sick or crazy or anxiety coming in the ER now. I only saw 11 people the other night (8 hour shift) admitted 8 and 4 were sick as shite

I’m staring at another facilities track board. Judging from minimal info it appears they walked in anxious about Covid and said to much about both. They got their nose raped and now they are at 19 hours and counting waiting for what can only be a psych bed somewhere. Lol
Dumbass. They’ll probably still be there when I come back Monday.

I remember my grandparents saying that if you worked the soil on Good Friday blood would come out of the ground.
My grandfather would have the rows in his garden made and ready to plant but would wait until Holy Saturday to plant.
They also would not watch tv or listen to the radio on Good Friday.
