The Aussies have not had more than 30 new cases in a day since April 18 while moving into the fall months when the virus was supposed to really take off in the Southern Hemisphere. The have a "lockdown" but it doesn't seem all that strict. So why are they so successful? Population density? Different strain? I tried to check the IHME model for Australia but they do not have one. What does the OT think?

Aussies who get it probably just ignore the symptoms and don't report it or get tested and go about their lives. Those are some tough descendants of prisoners down there

Between snakes and spiders and crocodiles and sharks, no reason to worry about a little virus.

Its Australia's time to shine. US is clearly a fading empire, Australia has it going on

Good question. It's not winter yet. The flu usually takes off in the winter, right? Not the fall?

They have evolved to survive some really deadly stuff down there. I am sure those 30 per day are immigrants from Asia.

It's currently 46 degrees in Melbourne. Their May temps are similar to November here in the south. Their Flu season generally begins in May/June and is used as an indicator of what we in the U.S. should expect.

You say "fall" but other than Sydney and South from there, they don't have what we consider autumn.

The other thing they have in their favor is population density. Even in the big city's they are spread out over a good distance.

Melbourne and Sydney have more people than L.A. Although the cities (Mel & Syd)are geographically bigger most of the population is confined in the downtown area.

In Southeast Georgia it commonly near 95-100 degrees every day in November...but the humidity is not nearly as bad.

Sydney has huge suburban areas. Parking spaces cost the same as apartments because so many people drive into the central city area.

They shut down travel early and locked things down early. When you do that you can use testing and isolation to knock the virus out. The same thing for New Zealand. Most of the cases that both countries had came from a cruise ship.

Which is funny because sun-health is huge down there. School children's uniforms include big hats with neck-covers.

They sell sunblock everywhere.
