Yes 2019

These results encouraged the researchers to analyse some frozen samples between January 2018 and December 2019, with the shocking results of the presence of SARS-CoV-2 genome in March 2019, before any notification of COVID-19 cases in the world. “All samples were negatives regarding the SARS-CoV-2 genome presence except for March 12, 2019, in which the levels of SARS-CoV-2 were low but were positive, using two different targets”, says the researcher.

oh yeah. gotta keep those historical samples.

but this seems like bad testing. March 2019 wouldn't make any sense whatsoever with what we know about this virus

I have a chest freezer in my garage with samples going back a decade. You never know when it might come in handy to help out a diagnosis.

But we were repeatedly told that this virus first emerged at the Wuhan wet market in December 2019.

I mean, as a scientist, I would have to chalk this up to false positive

I'd be pretty dubious on these results considering this sounds as though that date was the only sample over that 24-month period (though, it appears they didn't look at every month in that period or every sample from said months) to be positive for it.

Edit at add: The Methods sections for many of these CoviD/medical related articles fricking suck!

Edit 2: Looks like they analyzed 9 archival samples over that January 2018-December 2019 period, three from 2018 and six from 2019.

I hope the checked and rechecked that sample before trying to get this published, then started analyzing other archival samples around that date. It was only detected with two of the five tests they used. Not sure how accurate any of those tests are, though. Seems like they're saying it's a big deal that they were found with the two that tested positive, though.
