You don't have to pay any employees if you fire them all

Interaction with Current PTO Policy: Emergency sick leave must be provided in addition to any sick leave already provided by the employer.

His might be like my company who is holding off on finalizing the details on their policy until the bill goes into law. Mine said we have 2 weeks of sick leave for this that would be reimbursed to us so they're already planning on giving us the 2 weeks on top of what we already get.

You realize how many businesses are affected by this law?

Just the law has the potential to bankrupt many of these businesses.

It truly is amazing and sad to watch just how many short-sighted decisions our "leaders" are making, only to then compound the problem worse when trying to fix the first bad decisions.

This will go down as one of the most egregious overreactions in US history. But hey, if it saves 1,000 grandmas at a severe burden to millions then it is the "best thing to do", right?

Lets say I have 300 employees. I have to pay out $1,533,000 with no income coming in on top of any leave that is already offered.

Assuming every employee gets sick and they all make at least $133,000 in salary.

So the government just helped the citizens by crushing small business?

Commies are digging it. Government is crushing private industry...

Hence the rock and hard place.

You fire your employees to save the company or you save the employees and frick your company. Doing the morally good thing and taking care of your loyal employees gets you deep dicked by the feds.

Yeah your company is fricked.

Why would that make my company fricked? We are 100% remote at this time, nobody has gotten sick, and it's not like we make widgets that won't get made if someone isn't working. The work will get done.

Political solutions are usually based on emotion. The almost always have unintended horrible consequences.

You could fire them now before they have a chance to use it.

But I do love the "no, you can't use a lifeboat, you will sink in your ship" provision.

So if I'm reading option 2 correctly, my wife can take 10 days PTO and then get 2/3 salary for the remainder of the time my kids daycare is closed?

Her employer has more than 500 employees.

Then she doesn't get the sick leave, but does get the family leave.

Obviously we need more information.

I misread it to mean 511 per week.

So average employee wage is $10/hr at two weeks pay that is 800 x 300 employees is $240,000. A shitload of money for a small company with no income coming in.

I work for a company with less than 500 employees.

I had contact with a family member that had direct contact with an individual that tested positive for the Wuhan Virus two days ago.

I told my work and they said they couldn’t afford for me to quarantine and unless the family member I was in contact with tests positive they expect me at work.

Most companies don’t really give a shite about their employees.

Exactly.

This is a pretty bad deal.

Unpaid leave, with an assurance your job would still be there, would be better.
