well when you get "how can you defend child molesters?" you have to develop brain games
i do love some friends who have never been to jail, let alone sit there for 9-12 months, who wouldn't accept it even at 99%

and some of them still do I'm sure

I think I heard they will each receive 1.6 million for their trouble. That each were brutalized in prison and each were almost killed. Gee thanks, System.

i think a ton of criminal defense attorneys are way too undereducated on the whole "false memory" issue. they give lip service to the instability of EWT but don't really understand how it all works to communicate that to a jury in an ethical and legal way
Well, like you said below, even if you DID, you'd essentially be in a position of having to tear down the jury's own self perceived ability to remember things as well as they believe they can. I'm sure a great attorney can make some dents on a case by case basis, but this is really more of a societal issue and we're no where near ready to accept just how shitty we are as information gathering devices.
Add to it how difficult it is for people to simply say, "I don't know" about any particular thing rather than feeling they have to fill in the blank with bullshite to appear less ignorant and you've got the system we're in.
Love this topic.

Over the years I've noticed the satanic panic really irks you
. I'm too young to have experienced it so I didn't really know anything about it until I saw your posts.

yeah i'm curious about how to do this. i am thinking that voir dire may be the best place to start this
that was my first jury trial i did myself so i'm not 100% sure on leeway in certain areas and i was very controlled (although i did tell the jury that in VD we weren't just asking questions and were priming them to become biased for the case)
i assume that a small, insidious false memory lecture during VD would be fine, as it speaks to credibility.
i need to go see if anyone is doing this. i may have found a money-printing idea

it's just something that truly fascinates me b/c i legit grew up during it and i legit believed it
it's like finding out Santa isn't real x 10000
i also just like the occult as a concept and enjoy dark things in general. i mean in high school i wrote 3 research papers on serial killers and/or cannibals

oh man i'm developing a thread about false narratives from youth and that was going to be #3
1. Satanic Panic
2. AIDS for heterosexual men
3. D/D
i have a great link with an FBI memo on D/D that i found yesterday for the thread that's fricking hilarious
fricking NBC or some network did a "D/D" movie where the kids go nuts and kill people

I didn't know you followed this type of thing. Have you ever heard of the Kelly Wilson story out of Gilmer, TX? 1992 disappearance. 1994 satanic hysteria and absolute BS.
Here's a little follow up. Watch the 5 minutes. If you got into reading about this one you would be amazed. Some of the wackiest testimony and accusations ever.

That's exactly what the Satanists want you to think. Remember, just because something doesn't happen that doesn't mean it isn't real.
Posted on 6/24/17 at 10:45 am to SlowFlowPro
I know some people who still insist kids were killing themselves if their D&D character died.

Are you talking about the one starring a new up and coming actor named Tom Hanks?
I was big into D&D at the time and my parents had a conniption when they saw it!

Does anyone remember the case against the day care center in Tangipahoa Parish about 15 years ago. There were similar accusations of satanism and child sexual assault. I'm pretty sure there were multiple convictions. I can't remember enough of the details to do a search, but I don't recall any subsequent news to the effect that it was a false allegation.

believe Vice did a piece on this after True Detective boomed

The case of Hosanna Church in Tangipahoa Parish is pretty skin-crawlingly awful and, for viewers of True Detective, rings awfully familiar. A formerly thriving evangelical church on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, Hosana once boasted thousands of members and supported schools for area children. As the church's membership dwindled, it also served a much darker role: as a haven for child sexual abuse that occurred in the context of satanic rituals. Seriously. Here's a New Times piece on the case from 2005.
Vice Video
the FBI official (go to 16:50) said there was no evidence of Satanic rituals. that appears to be rumors (to be expected with these cases)

The very similar case you are thinking of is likely the Amirault (sp?) conviction in Massachusetts. The WSJ would have articles on how outrageous it was based on induced testimony from children who weren't alllowed to be cross-examined by the defense. I think it was finally overturned.
