Couple charged with hate crime after racist attack on family aboard New York train

Justin Likerman, of Ronkonkoma, and Kristin Digesaro, of Huntington, surrendered to police Wednesday and were charged with aggravated harassment as a hate crime and endangering the welfare of a child. The two also reportedly lost their jobs after being publicly identified.
According to a social media user, who claimed to be a witness and who shared video of the incident, the attack happened on Jan. 10, as the family of five was heading home from a Knicks game.
The alleged witness said the group asked two people if they could move so that they could all sit together. The pair agreed, and that’s when the harassment allegedly began.
“They started throwing beer at us and we didn’t know how to mitigate the situation because my 10-year-old was there,” Liz Edelkind, one of the harassment victims told WCBS 880.
Both the man and the woman worked at Empire Toyota of Huntington and have since lost their jobs
The guy even said he was going to get arrested that night in the video, but had to wait 9 days for his wishes to come true.

Xenophobic more than racist.
Meanwhile, black thugs can attack and kill people of the orient with impunity and it’s the fault of “white supremacy” and no hate crime charges emerge.

I think the throwing of the beer is what brought the charges. What has happened to freedom of speech. I don’t necessary condone what he said but I don’t see how this isn’t within his rights. Also, what did the woman do?

Why do these articles always reference the speech part of the reasoning for the hate crime charge.
This is why he was arrested. And hate crime for that? Misdemeanor assault would be appropriate but not a damn hate crime.

I have no issue with it. If you combine the speech with action, I think that fits the hate crime statute.
I say this, as long as it is solely provoked by the race or status of the victim. If the victim of the assault is shite talking or harassing the perp, all that shite should be off the table.

And Trump fans call Obama divider-in-chief because this one time he said police did something wrong when arresting someone. He even fricking had beer with the people involved in the incident at the White House to rectify the mistake, but that wasn't enough.
