A game where you command a bunch of black men where to go and what to do for your pleasure?

I don't think her master gravy would approve.

However, we all know she reads this shite and down votes everything and RA's virtually everything regardless of the subject matter.

She made herself a public figure

Did anyone notice that the COA board members have wooden name placards for a board of 10 and maybe 2 members of the public in the room?

I get that it's nitpicking but gives credence to the attitude and fiscal policies of the board that this was a justified cost vs some cardstock folded in half.

Though the mayor-president attended Wednesday's meeting, she did not speak and she did not take a side in the arguments about the Council on Aging. In an interview Thursday, she said the nonprofit agency does not need more oversight from city-parish government through the cooperative endeavor agreement.

quote:

Republican council members Buddy Amoroso and Dwight Hudson want to amend the standard language in the cooperative endeavor agreement comes back before the council. Both men have been highly critical of the Council on Aging as legal and ethical questions swirled around the agency and its management over the past few months. The two plan to ask council members for an amended agreement that would give the Metro Council control over who is appointed to the Council on Aging's governing board. Amoroso also said he hopes to include recommendations from the auditor's report in the proposed cooperative endeavor agreement.

quote:

The Council on Aging has a rare level of autonomy from city-parish government, especially for an agency with a dedicated tax. The mayor and Metro Council usually have the ability to appoint board members for agencies in Baton Rouge. For example, the mayor appoints or the Metro Council votes on some if not all board members for agencies such as BREC, the library system, the Capital Area Transit System and the Downtown Development District.

quote:

Batson also revealed during the meeting that under legal precedent the Metro Council has the ability to set the tax for the Council on Aging at a level other than the 2.25 mills voters approved. She said she was not advocating for the council to change the property tax millage, but council members asked her for clarification.

quote:

Amoroso said Thursday he has no agenda to try to change the size of the tax that voters approved, nor does he want to permanently block it. "I'm not trying to overly burden the Council on Aging. I'm not trying to be punitive. I just think that these are some good government opportunities," he said. "When the audit comes out, I think the public will demand we have these protections in place."

Because the State Legislative Auditor believes the Council on Aging board and executive director so blatantly disregarded the state's open meetings laws, it's now up to the attorney general or district attorney to enforce the law.

Lock EM up baby!! We are just scratching the surface of the misdoings of the COA.

Promise you, more arrest will be coming. This will be a big set back for the AA community.

No one has been arrested or will be going to jail over a closed meeting. However, once the inevitable illegal financials and other internal practices of similar scale come to light, then yes. They will.

Also, sounds like you want it to set back the AA community. While I can't stand NBR dem politics, race baiting and inherent ignorance I by no means want something like this to set back any group in BR regardless of Race other than those involved in the corruption and crimes they have committed regardless of their political affiliation, sex, race or whatever. I just want this shite to stop. They are doing more damage to their community and doing it so willingly while they soapbox as a voice for the same.
