You don't have to use tig for this problem. Similar triangles is all that's needed. The ratio of the legs of the big triangle are equal to the ratio of the legs of the small triangle. Both ratios will have the unknown a. One equation, one unknown. Solve for the unknown, a=10 therefore a^2 =100 which is the area of the square.

Most people immediately say first because most people are average. The correct answer is second.

It is a square so the sides have to be the same length

I read something recently about two questions to determine IQ
If you can't answer 48 x 2 without a calculator, your IQ is likely to be less than 80.

No clue why this is getting downvotes. It's spot on.

It’s a right triangle and assuming it’s a 3-4-5 right triangle
5 + x = 3/4(20+x)
5 + x = 15 + 3/4x
5 + 1/4x = 15
1/4x = 10
X = 40
Check:
The two sides are 45 and 60
45 = 3/4 (60)
So if X = 40
The area is 1600 square inches
5 + x = 3/4(20+x)
5 + x = 15 + 3/4x
5 + 1/4x = 15
1/4x = 10
X = 40
Check:
The two sides are 45 and 60
45 = 3/4 (60)
So if X = 40
The area is 1600 square inches

But can she produce me an athlete? Just look at her legs and arse for that, no need to see if she knows what a 5-4-3 right triangle is.

Yes, bc math is the sole measure of intelligence.

Bet it's more than 5.

You would have to assume the square and triangle is actually square and that was not a given.

As long as they can solve a raw ribeye, all is forgiven.

Not enough information.
You need to know the other two angles. Then you can use trig to determine the total length of the sides, and from there you can determine the sides of the square.
The problem doesn't say it's a 30-60 or 45-45 right triangle and you can't assume.

It was 9th grade for us. I remember specifically that there was a Side Angle Side calculation method. So of course we called it an Angle Side Side method which is just as valid.
That would be Side Side Angle.
SAS is different because you list them in order. Those are methods for calculating whether two triantare congruent.
Damn, that's a blast from the past.

I'm so glad I don't need anything more than basic algebra or statistics in my job
