If you are looking for anything higher than Alderman, yes you will most certainly need a degree.

It's not the fact that you have one, but the experience that most often comes with it. You would be running against lawyers, doctors, and business men...That is unless you're from a rural district and can get away with a working man message.

ETA: in reference to those mentioning Walker and Graves, they both worked almost exclusively in the political realm from very early on. That's a different story.

This is the correct answer.

Scott Walker, the Wisconsin Governor, won 3 elections without a college degree and is about to win his 4th.

Leave college to pursue a career? People do it all the time. I have no idea if Scott Walker did or not. I wasn't there.

Hell, with the way we're heading, having a degree may very well be a political liability in 20 years.

In 4 states, not having a law degree, but passing the Bar exam will make you an attorney. Interdasting

quote:

Today, only four states — California, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington — allow aspiring lawyers to take the bar exam without going to law school. Instead, they are given the option to apprentice with a practicing attorney or judge. (New York, Maine and Wyoming offer an apprenticeship alternative as well, but also require some law school.)

A career where any chink in your background is fodder for anyone who wants to make sure you have a different career?

I really don't know what you're trying to prove here man. I wasn't there. That's what I think he said about the situation. Again, I wasn't there, I didn't grade his exams, nor have I ever spoken to the man.

Scott Walker left Marquette University in his fourth year to take a full time job with the Red Cross.

He went in to politics after that job and did not go back to school.
