If he didn't fight back it would end even sooner because the fly weight wouldn't have to worry about any shots coming in. I promise you it is MUCH harder thn you believe to spar for even 2 minutes if you haven't trained to do it. You will think your lungs are going to burst out of your chest.

He isn't going to lay there for you though. I have never taken any grappling so I realize I suck but I honestly can't hold my 160lb son down because he is trained and I am not.

At some point, the strength would be too much for the flyweight to overcome. I think that point is somewhere north of 200 pounds and in good shape.

No. Probably not even 30 seconds. Almost nobody could do that.

This helps in no way. At all.

Just deflect attacks using their own motions.

I have been hit by some small guys that pack unbelieveable power and none of them were world champions. I am not saying it couldn't be done but i don't believe I could do it.

I'm sure my lungs would feel that way, but we are talking professional athletes. I'm willing to be a majority of NFL lbers could last 5 minutes with a 145 trained fighter. As I said, the fighter can't kick them if they are laying on the ground in a ball. At that point its just about not exposing limbs for a submission.

Strength is extremely overrated when you're talking about a professionally trained, extrememly gifted fighter like the flyweights in the UFC and Joe Schmoe off the street who is in shape..

ETA: You won't "strength" yourself out of harms way.

I disagree. I would be willing to bet almost none could make it 3 minutes. I played both football and I box and there is absolutely no comparison. It is totally different training and nothing in anyway prepares you for sparring outside of training specifically for that sport. I have seen marathon runners come in and drop to the floor after a half hour workout because they can't breathe.

Why can't he kick them? He would also work a limb loose or just choke them out if they curled up in a ball and he wasn't allowed to kick. If you let him kick he would break every one of their ribs.

Does Strikeforce count? How about the Legacy guys that fight here in H-town? Used to roll with some current UFC guys.

Isn't there a rule that you can't kick a fighter on the ground? I'm pretty sure there is. Working the limb loose is where the strength comes in. I understand these guys are strong for their weight, but we are talking NFL lber 240 pounds strong. If he has his arm tucked in to his head that 145 pound guy is not pulling it away from his body. Also, if he has is hands over his head how is he going to get a choke hold?

I believe they can kick the body but not the head. I also believe he would get a limb because he trains to pull on limbs for 5 minutes while the NFL player doesn't.

Probably wouldn't last 5 mins in the ring with this dude. Or 5 mins in the sack with his lady either.

but he also trains against other 145lb fighters not 220 lb people. Yes he could win in a fight but that extra strength from the heavier person will definately take its toll on their endurance also

Just because he trains to do something doesn't mean he will automatically be able to accomplish it because the other person has not trained to do that same thing. I think a lot of UFC fans like to embellish just how dominating these guys are. Sure, these guys will kick anyones arse here and do it easily, but at some point simple physics play a part and the 145 pound guy is not going to overcome a guy who has more than twice the strength as he has.
