We have membership at both. Generally Costco quality is better than Sams but there are exceptions and a few things we can find at Sams that Costco doesn't carry. Kirkland vs Sams house branded liquor is miles apart - enough so that we don't even bother with Sams liquor. Returns at Costco are a lot easier than Sams.
I do really like the exit arches at Sams and was waiting in line to exit at Costco one time and mentioned that Sams has them beat in that area. The cart checker girl got very indignant and gave me a little 'tude over my comment.

Costco has better products and customer service.
The only qualm I have with it is that it's always a madhouse and full of annoying people who have no spatial awareness.

I only go to costco within 1 hour of closing so no lines
But if you go at 1 pm any day the checkout line will be at least 10 deep but does move fast
Also its bullshite you cant checkout liquor in the self checkout

^ well you can, but they have to send someone over to check ID and that can sometimes take a minute or so if they're short staffed and busy

Costco doesn't accept AMEX nor do they have an awesome Scan and Go app. I'll hang out with the trash at Sam's for those two reasons.

Recently upgrade from Gold to Executive at Costco. They ran numbers for us based off the last 12 months and I would received a check in the mail for $200.00. According to my calcs that comes out to $10k spent there! Holy shite! LOL

I have both and don't see the resemblance between Sams and Walmart. I can get in and out of Sams much faster. Also, Costco doesn't accept Mastercard in the store which is a real bummer. As we speak I'm fixing to go to Costco and try their Chocolate Chip cookies as I hear they're superior to Sams, I do know for a fact Sams are real good.

Probably just more of just a suggestion so they don't have to hold up the self checkouts waiting for an employee. They'll check you out regardless.
