I have a rental that may need to have a new a/c put in it. I was told by the service guy last year that there's a freon leak in the system somewhere and the unit may need to be replaced soon, since it is 15 years old.

Any idea how much this might cost me?

Why didn't you ask the servicing guy?

I did last year. He said he'd get back to me with a price but never did.
Window units are not an option.

Great info in here.

I guess I would have been better off asking what style khaki pants look best with my Sperrys or what color Yeti sticker I should put on the back of my center console boat.

Seeing how you haven't given any real info you aren't going to get a real answer.

How many sq ft is this said mobile home? That will determine the size of the unit you need.

It will cost you about the same as as it would for a regular home. I used to have a 1700 sq ft. mobile home and the price to replace the the A/C was around $5500.

All electric? If so the a/c portion can be replaced without replacing the entire unit.
Outside compressor unit $1000.+/- Inside a-frame evaporator $400-600. All this depending on size. Plus labor, copper, freon and the like....

Yes all electric. He never said anything about replacing any of the inside equipment. Just the outside unit.

Not sure what a humble brag is. Just looking for real info.

Thanks to all who contributed.

Just tell whoever you're renting it from to pay for it.

I'm the owner, they're renting it from me. So I will incur all repair costs.

Can't understand how this is so hard to figure out.

You should be able to get out of it under $2k for the compressor unit. Turn key.

You can't get a price unless you know what size and brand. You can get a CPOS or you can get a nice condenser.

Also the old refrigerant was outlawed several years ago. So more likely than not you'll have to replace the indoor and outdoor unit regardless.
