I watch Vice Grip Garage and Mortske Repair all the time. I bet the mice have made a meal out of the interior and wiring of that thing.

For show they are fine. If you want to drive it, no. But with 33 miles that thing is going into a collection

Agreed….that one will probably end up at the corvette museum in Kentucky

Will they roll? Yes.
Should you drive on them? No.

My guess is that he's prettying it up for sale pics and road safety wasn't a concern at that moment.

That said, that's an '82, I think, so every single rubber part is gonna be just about disintegrated.

That said, I guess it all depends on how much UV light it was exposed to. I have a water ski from 1980, it sat in a case the entire time I had it only exposed to the sun when using it. The boot on it is like brand new today. I was shocked last time I pulled it out.

Side note: we can thank the government for all the regulations on vehicles during those times. Fricking 200 HP My wife's Traverse has 310...

That's amazing, and IMO, an outlier.

I've had cars in garages, and covered, and still had plastic pieces just fall apart. The rubber pieces fared better, especially if you put silcone grease on them, which I did. I agree about UV; that's the big killer.

That car was a mess, as you saw, so I'm certain it's in bed shape

I remember the faded paint job coming from those side vents...

Did it come with a CB radio?

Yes, that is the same Vette. Look at the pics on Mecum site. It has the same original white/blue NOTICE sign on the passenger visor shade.

The AM/FM/Cassette/CB was an option. A costly one at that. $700 add on.

Though most Collectors Editions were pretty much optioned all the same way, the only thing I see different is the dealer plaque on the rear panel. I don't know why someone would have added that later if it didn't come that way. Most removed them or never had them put on before delivery.

The 1978 Corvette Pace Cars and 1982 Collectors Edition aren’t really worth that much. They are dog slow and heavy but do look good sitting still.

Best thing to do with the Disco era corvettes these days is put a LS3 or LS7 in them along with upgraded trans, brakes, suspension and wheels.

Something like this

A clean, 4-speed 78 Pace will still bring good money.

Depends on what buyer you're after...

Pace cars were selling for double sticker price for a time when new. Pretty dumb considering they made over 6000 of them.

The old man told my grandfather to take it when a guy offered double for the one sitting in the showroom. Held out for more and finally sold it ten years later with less than 100 miles for about sticker or a bit under iirc. Still had the plastic on the seats.

You can still buy really nice ones for double the 1978 sticker price today last I saw. Not a great investment...

And to think a new Camry V6 will beat a new at the time Ferrari 308 by over a second...

Question: are those tires still usable? the reason I ask is why wash them, put new ones on.

How many people here know that tires actually have an expiration date? Typically 6 years after the manufacture date stamped into the tire.

To title this as "Corvette Restoration" is more than a bit misleading.

It's just a full blown deep cleaning, nothing more, nothing less.
