I've mentioned it in other threads, but my dad used to take my brothers and I to an open field that became part of Cortana Mall in order to launch our Estes rockets. Back in around 1971. Big empty open field with no worries about losing a rocket. Bon Marche was not yet enclosed but was the mall. My mom took us to Gouchaux's for most of our clothes, though.

Going to the movies. Hitting Space Port before.
Piccadilly.
Mama Brava with some of the best damned pizza on the planet.
Tossing coins in the fountains.

In it's heyday it was amazing. I realize it's fricked up to call a mall amazing but it was a hell of a place.

I remember the Olive Green McDonalds in Bon Marche
Went there and the Woolworth's lunch counters when I worked in that mall in the 80s.

I couldn’t wait to hit Champs to check out the latest Dr J Converse and Nike shoes. Great times.

Ate my first Chick fil A sandwich there.
Spent many an afternoon by myself as a kid at Mama Brava's followed by dumping some quarters at Space Port.

Wasn't the lot where Cortana sat used for the state fair in the late 60s/early 70s?

Don't forget Ponys. They were THE sneaker to have way back in 1980 and only Champ's had them.

Not gonna lie. Pretty sad to read about the passing of the Journeys manager. Guy was awesome at his job.

GOAT retail manager.
I’ve never seen someone with so much passion for his career.
Super nice guy.

Mid 80s my parents used to drop me and my sister off at 7 and pick us up at 10. I was 10 or 11 and my sister was probably 13 or 14. We split up walking in the door.
There is no way in hell that I would drop my son off at the mall and let him walk around unsupervised for 3 hours. Those were the good old days

I worked in there too. Woolworth's Patty melt was the best.

Definitely. We thought Pony’s were the next big shoe. As a team we voted to wear them for our Sr year on the basketball team. After that, they sort of faded out.

Oh a don't forget the employee that was abducted in the parking lot in the early 90s. She escaped on 4h club road.
Guy ended up killing his stepdaughter years later in french settlement and his DNA was linked to the abduction and another murder

Sitting in the parking lot of...was it Maison Blanche?...all night to be first in line when Ticketmaster opened to get concert tickets. Oh yeah.

We used to get dropped off at Cortana when I was probably no older than 8-10 yrs old. We'd spend most of our time in Space Port.
I got my first shotgun at Service Merchandise.

Gotta say, about a year ago someone on TD recommendation taking one more trip to Cortana mall before it met the fate of the recking ball. I did, and that was really neat. The whole mall was lit up, A/C cranked up, music playing, just like it never missed a beat, although there were only about 10 stores in the whole place open and no customers in sight. I walked the whole place trying to remember what was where. It was kinda difficult since I hadn’t been routinely since probably the late 80’s. Very nice trip down memory lane.
