a depreciating asset like an expensive car.

As pointed out, a Vette isn't that expensive these days.

Vette prices haven't really shot up like your big SUVs or trucks. Like I said, you can easily spend more on an F250 without even optioning it that much.

NEWS ALERT: What's worse is acting as though a Mustang is a sports car.

What are you talking about? Someone can easily be making 150-175k and maxing out retirement while also driving a nice car.

A guy making 175k in louisiana is doing extremely well, and can likely afford a lightly used C8 Vette and still invest/save. A single guy with a small house or a trailer making $175k is basically rich af in louisiana.

Theyre available for under $50k all over the place. Sure they arent cheap but they arent exactly expensive either.

But what i was giggling at was the "only" part of your comment. I get what youre saying, but it always makes me giggle when someone says something like "ONLY 175K" on a louisiana message board, where the median income of the posters here is probably around $100k if we're generous.

You need to be doing more than maxing a 401k. Are you saving 6 months to a year of salary in case of a layoff? Are you putting money into a 529 for your kids? Are you investing for yourself outside of simply a reticent account? Are you saying money for potential issues down the road like long term care, etc.? What about insurances?

I mean at 50K there aren't that many great options anymore unless you're really picking a beater

And I drive a 10 year old car. I don't spend a lot on cars but may make it a financial fail if I hit the next 2. There's only aspirational things that are somewhat rational to Target in terms of financial goals.

But like I said, people come into the conversation thinking that Corvettes are expensive when they're not. Especially compared prices of new SUVs and trucks

I didn't think we were talking used or a guy living in a trailer.

Right. You can get a sub 50k mile, sub $50k, sub 10 year old c8 vette and basically pick whatever color you want. There are lots of options out there and they arent clapped out or anything.

Now what really deserves scrutiny is those guys having $300k+ offshore fishing boats. You want to talk about people spending money on toys they cant afford take a peek at that market, and go sit on highway 1 on a weekend and see how many of them there are in this broke arse state.

I dont think they are expensive, I owned a Grand Sport in the 90s. But people who think wasting 70k+ after taxes and interest on a car just for looks is no big deal are likely not really steeling themselves for the future.

When you add in taxes and interest, you're expanding this way beyond Corvettes

That's what you keep ignoring. Tahoes and 250s are typically more expensive than new base C8s

No, I qualified my statement about a car for "looks." But the Tahoes arent a great idea either.

I agree with others with the “so what” response. I will note an exception, I did have a Department Manager that would do his obligatory visit to construction job sites every few months or so driving his automatic Porsche 911 with the top down. It was a little cringe.

You don't buy a C8 for looks.

People who want to dictate or care about what other people drive vote Democrat and think UBI is a "pretty good idea".

You don't seem to understand that you can do all the things for your future and drive a fun car.
