If they are able to complete the fitness program they should be allowed to serve.

Tempest in a teapot.
This is just a circuit breaker to ensure adequate pulmonary and renal function studies are done in high risk candidates prior to entry.
If minimal damage is found person will be granted waiver.
That being said, retention is about to significantly improve as economy goes to shite so MEPS will be more selective

I think there is some evidence of long-term respiratory damage as well as impaired organ function. Be interesting to see to what extent it triggers autoimmune diseases, too.
Seems odd for DOD to make that kind of decision this early in the game, though. My guess is that they're hitting recruiting target numbers already and don't need to take the risk of these people getting a discharge and a pension after six months.

This is so no other govt blames us for creating an outbreak. A little late for that...

Very common for the military to add and remove requirements. They are fat and happy with retention.
If retention goee to shite they'll accept a covid, transgendered, cocaine addict.
Yep, if they need people to sign up this immediately gets dropped.

s there something that they're not saying about getting this virus?
Causes varying degrees of brain damage in some young people.

No it isn’t. Because in the hospitalized cases they are finding significant diffuse scarring of lung tissue even if you never get so bad as to require getting on a vent.
Yes it is, pneumonia can cause scarring of the lungs I know I've had it and even at 40 yrs old my lung capacity is better than most 20 yr olds.. Point is your body if taken care of properly is very effective in healing itself. I guess my real problem is the way they there this blanket statement out there it's reckless and stupid.

basically saying they don’t know what damage this crap does to people.
Can someone please explain to me why this is so different than any other mystery illness that people get?
I got what I thought was the flu mid-2018. Hit me like a truck, achy, chills, the whole thing. I went to urgent care and I tested negative for the flu, they told me they didn't know what it was and prescribed me a generic of tamiflu and sent me on my way. Couldn't that illness they didn't know about have done some long-term damage of which I'm unaware?
I'm not asking this egregiously. I am genuinely curious how the lack of information about COVID is different than any other illness that may be out there.

Not a big deal, recruiters will omit certain records if they aren’t going to meet quota.

Great question here, has there been any kind of numbers of tested positive and age that anyone has seen? I will attempt to do a search for it and see what I can find.

They have always loved to place restrictions during times of (relative) peace. If a war that requires a draft ever breaks out again, those standards and restrictions will be whittled away with the quickness. They will be taking every Tom and Harry Dick with a pulse and a man bun. It is all relative, and in this case it is relative to not wanting to deal with any longterm ramifications of those who survived a fight with a severe case of Covid-19, as they are yet to determine what, if any, longterm damage the disease will cause. It is not some noble endeavor, either. They don't want the cost associated with a large number of people who had the disease and any lasting medical issues from it.

Yes I was unaware of the damage this virus could do to the lungs, and thought the actions by the pentagon was rather quick with this virus being so new.
When I read the first article I was asking myself what are they not telling us about this virus! It just looked really strange to me.
Now after second article and what you wrote what they are doing makes sense, at least to the point of my first opinion.
