Looking at the chart right now, the way I read it which could be really wrong is that TODAY there is a projected need for more icu beds than there are .. does anyone know if Louisiana is out of icu beds?

Great article with hospital bed numbers-

It helps that LCMC and Ochsner has/is converting/creating 200 combined additional ICU beds between this past week and this current week. That significantly increased ICU capacity around NOLA. Staffing is tough for these type of beds. After these beds fill up, I don't know where they are finding more ICU beds around here. Maybe some real rigged up stuff in regular rooms or combining positive patients in previously single rooms. Not like they have to have space for visitors in the room, just the beds and machines.

Today's thoughts

It's hard to combine the idea of so many new positive tests, AND the reports that the large drive through testing sites are running out of people to test. (I was told that the Lake Charles testing site tested 13 people this morning).

I wonder how much intrahospital spread we are seeing now. If those with the easiest access to testing are skewing the numbers.

I have seen absolutely nothing that tells me that we aren't all going to be exposed at some point. Too contagious, too widespread.

As surprising at the "positives" number was today, hospitalizations went up just another 200 statewide. It appears that the state can handle that kind of growth for a good bit longer.

Still sad/frustrating to see all of the people on vents, and knowing that so many of those people will not make it.

Your using anecdotes about Lake Charles and applying it to the country.

Hospitalization rates are going down pretty rapidly as more people get tested. This is a great sign. We've seen this in markets all over the US as testing has ramped.

Very sad.

I've been wondering about the general flattening of the new case numbers. A lot of people have been touting this as a good sign that the social distancing is working.

I am hopeful but skeptical. It seems too soon to be seeing the impact of the measures that are in place. Also, there is a huge backlog of tests waiting for results. This should be resolved soon but it still exists. Apparently Labcorp and Idexx are taking a week or more to report results. If the testing is bottlenecked, the positive case count will also be bottlenecked.

I really hope the numbers reflect reality; we will find out soon enough. We know have at least another month of lockdown now either way.

If I could just drive up and get tested, I would.

But I can’t.

Needing to be sick AF, getting a doctor and the state to approve the testing is just bullshite and is not pro-active.

That has to change if the “demand” has fallen.

Were you anemic before this or is that something that came about after your hospitalization?

Tons. Case in point. I saw a guy on Saturday for PT eval post quad tear. Got him DC’d to rehab quick. He’s now back with pneumonia and fever on covid protocol. Didn’t really have any PPE because he was an ortho.

I now have to wear a mask while in facility and get check for symptoms/fever 2x daily until his results come back.

How you feeling? Blood oxygen still climbing this morning?

I feel better actually. Blood saturation at 93 and the doctor said my lungs don't look good at all but that's what happens when you smoke for twenty years. He said he doesn't think the disease made them that much worse. So bad news I guess but that was already going to be the case so I am not freaking out over the report. I am happy and excited. If the numbers continue to climb then I will be out of this bitch soon.

One thing I can honestly say is that if I make it home and it looks like I certainly will, it would have been worth getting sick just to get off the smokes. The nurse has been giving me a nicotine patch every morning so that helps but I never entertained using them before I was hospitalized and just couldn't smoke. I think not smoking all these days has contributed to getting better. I am done. Never really even cared to quit before this happened so I never tried. The hospital as made it to where I had no choice. The first three days I could have killed for a smoke and now I don't even think about it.

Seriously, did you get your pizza (was it pizza?) last night? How goes it today? I'll have some Tito's and diet lemonade for ya when my chores sammiches included are done.

Not surprised and kudos to your nurse for checking ... I'm a registered dietitian and appreciate other professionals looking out for their patients in this regard.

That’s awesome, man! It’s a great thing for your long term health. COVID might have added years to your life. Who knew? A buddy of mine is a tobacco sales rep and I know his company and at least one other sell these things that are straight nicotine pouches, no tobacco involved. I suppose if you start feeling bad on withdrawal it might be an option for you. That or the gum. Get off the tobacco products, whatever you do.

Good luck and God bless you, sir!

Because the test released today were done 5-7 days ago so those people got sick 7-14 days ago. A bunch are probably already recovered
We've been on semi lockdown for over 2 weeks now so it should start getting better

If you catch the virus this week you either have to work around sick people or you or someone in your family is a dumbass
