I will also say the temperature breaking is unsurprising since this is an immunosuppressant, although I am surprised it broke so fast.

we will see if it actually improves their course

@DrMattMcCarthy
Here's new data from NY Dept. of Health we're using to determine how to allocate resources: Cohort of 240 #coronavirus cases; 1/4 were hospitalized. Of those 60% went to ICU, 44% required a ventilator. Factors associated with severe disease: age > 50, diabetes, COPD, HTN, asthma.

Meanwhile, in Georgia, no one seems to know where to get tested. The dialysis patient I mentioned earlier STILL hasn’t been tested. The nephrologist (for whom my wife works) has requested the test through LabCorp....but they have to order the testing supplies which may be days out.

This is ridiculous.

So that works out to 15% ICU, 11% on Vent. That seems higher than all of the estimates to me, and if that's the numbers the government is working with, it's easy to see why they are all in and ratcheting up the restrictions daily

These are the reports I don't get. That's not really consistent with any reports so far, so what's the difference with these?

Well the CFR for those age groups, regardless of where, are never 0. There's always somebody who has to be the unlucky one(s) to make the .01 or .02

If 500 million were infected, and at least 50 million died from the disease, that is a mortality rate of at least 13%. The only way the mortality rate could have been 2.5% in 1918, based on the numbers we have from the epidemic, is everyone on the planet would have had to have been infected.

The US had a population of 110 million in 1918. If approximately 30% were infected that is 33 million infections. The US had 675,000 fatalities. Just from the US perspective that is nowhere near 10%... closer to 2%.

I would say the US stats are the relevant ones.

If you can say, why was this particular patient treated with hydroxychloroquine?

Okay.. I've changed my stance on this. I'm convinced millions of Americans will die from this if we dont take this much more seriously. This reaction has been completely half assed so far. For something as serious as this no precaution is too far. We need to bring home all military personnel and deploy them in our streets. Make people stay in their homes and give them a McDonalds burger and a water once a day. If anyone tries to leave they get an extra month in confinement once things go back to normal and second infraction they should be hung with it broadcast on PBS as entertainment and a warning to others. This is the only way we can save our world.

I told my parents to stay home for a few weeks, which is easy for them as they live basically off the grid in the middle of nowhere

But thanks for your concern

That's exactly what I've been advocating since the mass panic started so good on you. I made my mom quit going to my grandpa's house earlier today. He says he doesnt give a frick if he gets it but I'd rather him be here.

Do you not consider intubation critical?
