Today feels like it’s been a ton of information, but the actual impact of the virus hasn’t been mentioned.
Have we seen anymore deaths or widespread outbreaks?

And it’s out of control in the sense that we have no fricking clue what’s going on. There’s no standardized testing or testing procedures, there’s conflicting reports coming from all over. And that’s causing the panic
So you haven’t looked at the cdc website either.

No, the panic is being caused by hyperventilating idiots and the media. But I repeat myself.

Is it accurate to say that these mass shutdowns aren’t meant to protect people’s health, but to ensure the medical system has the capacity to treat everyone who needs treatment when the time comes?
I don't think these are two separate things, but the main idea is essentially the latter. If there are X amount of hospital beds in the US and the total amount of infected is 3X, you'll have an overrun system if they're sick all at the same time. If that 3X is spread over a longer period of time, each bed can be used multiple times so they're never all needed at the exact same time.

quote:The CDC isn’t performing the tests anymore.
The CDC has only tested 77 people this week as this thing begins to explode.
State labs are performing them.
There were 1,145 tests performed by public state labs from 3/8-3/10 (there is no data for 3/11 or 3/12).
It is unknown how many tests have been performed by the private institutions.
LINK
Many states are still withholding the test for unknown reasons.
Also, private entities have been testing since 2/29.

Turned on the tv just now to catch the end of a test of the emergency alert system.

I’m sorry is trump not in charge of the CDC? Obviously he does very little in their day to day operations, but when there’s a potential global pandemic it’s his job to get involved and make sure shite gets done right.
I think he should have insisted we accept the WHO tests until the CDC could make and test their own. However, I’m not sure it’s the best call for a non-medical person to override the CDC on that.
As far as making the tests and having them be accurate, I’m not sure he’s qualified to do that. He can certainly throw his weight and resources around to help them do these things but he can’t make the tests himself.

The Frisco results were available in around 24 hours.

Haven’t searched their numbers but are their public numbers showing this?
“OHIO (KDKA) — More than 100,000 people in Ohio are possibly carrying the coronavirus, says the director of the Ohio Department of Health.
In a press conference on Thursday, Dr. Amy Action said one percent of Ohioans have the virus.”

That number is suspiciously high. If that’s the case, we likely all have it.

My magic 8 ball doesn’t predict this. She must have the TDS version.

Like I said, you can criticize trump for the way he has talked about the virus, but this idea that he has any meaningful control over the cdc testing production is absurd.
It’s comical to think Donnie T could just call up the cdc, demand more test production, and abracadabra more will be produced.
This is literally the cdc’s job. They don’t and shouldn’t require approval or guidance from a president who is not an expert in the field. THEY are the experts and are entrusted with big responsibilities.
