There is still some informational stuff posted here.
Eventually you reach information overload and it becomes more detrimental than beneficial.

It is a factor of panics.

So much information is produced and it becomes hard to determine what is relevant.

For example, there were multiple pages on here where people were discussing how it was a bioweapon created with the AIDS virus to make it more deadly.

yeah pretty much

reminds me of that documentary I saw about north korea where all their elderly citizens had cataracts and they thought it was like american bioterrorism or something

we live in a mf'in SOCIETY. bottom text

Well to be honest we have debunked a lot of conspiracy theories and scare articles here. So you could say we are reducing panic to some extent.

Because as it stands right now I have a better chance of dying in an automobile accident tomorrow than I do of catching the virus.

A threat how? Like the flu is a threat? Yeah, sure. Like flying in a helicopter is a threat? Nah.

How old is the oldest person in your immediate family?

Because the panic caused by people screaming on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News that 500,000 Americans are going to die is more of a threat to our society than this virus.

There are appropriate levels of response and discussion, and we raced right passed “appropriate” and landed right in “The Walking Dead” zone.

Some of the media response is because of that, but that isn’t my issue.

My issue with it is because I actually do recognize the problems that arise from scaring a population of people and telling them that they, their parents, and their children are all going to die.

There is ZERO benefit to that.

NONE.

Old people have a far greater chance to die of the flu right now than covid-19

That’s just a simple fact supported by data

I am honestly irrationally scared shitless of the flu. To the point we keep our 15 month old son home 99% of the time right now.

It’s not like I just totally disregard health risks.

The chances of me catching the corona is extremely small and being hospitalized because of it is even smaller.

It's a team sport and the truth is whatever your team says it is. The roles could just as easily be reversed, with the right calling it a crisis while the left downplayed it.

We'll see if that rubric can hold up if it really does get as bad as the worst projections say. I suspect there will be a hard core of true believers whose mind wont change even with people dropping all around them.

For now. It is just getting here.

Us “irrational” ones promoting minimizing spread and quarantine if necessary want to keep it that way.

600 cases out of a population of 327 million. 600! The vast majority of deaths attributed to this disease occurred at a facility that is basically a halfway house between this world and the next.

The oldest person in my immediate family is 60 years old but he is currently in remission from Leukemia and thus his immune system isn't 100%. Despite this...I'm not really worried about him getting the virus despite the fact there is a confirmed case of Coronavirus the county over from where he lives. I'm more worried about his Leukemia returning. That's a greater chance of that happening than of him getting this disease.

ETA: Love all the down votes. You guys are totally irrational. If the shite ever did hit the fan and we truly were effed by a serious pandemic, you people should be shot immediately because you'd be the first ones to sew panic.

Everyone is taking sides in an “I told you so” battle.

This entire thread needs a reset. It was actually a good discussion before the influx of people panicking about potential panickers.

I think some people are aggravated by all the actual panicked people hoarding TP and are taking it out on this thread that was providing updates and critical thinking.

Yea, this isn’t localized to this site.

Hell, this place isn’t even a drop in the bucket.

It is a speck on the beach.

The real problem occurs through Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and the media.

This site is perfect. Please do not intertwine Chicken's droppings to that of Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and the media as doing so is blasphemy.
