Not gonna say department since I work for fire department in same city but good friends of mine do between 10-14 hours a month on different training like that. Another friend who works for the sheriff department does at least 10 hours a month

Your small departments may not of course but most big cities they do quite a bit of de-escalating, hand to hand, firearms, public relations, dealing with pissed off or drugged out people, etc training
ETA: When you have over 800,000 cops who mostly deal with people who are mad at them, hate them, or are in a predicament, and knowing all 800,000 of them are human, sometimes bad shite happens, or you have some bad people. You always will. You’ll have bad bankers, police, electricians, firefighters, windshield men, etc

I grew up in Opelousas and I know their standards are pretty low as several members of my family were in the dept. I'm not sure about BR.

I'm very pro police, but if you think the industry standard is more than 1 day per year for defensive tactics training then you are in fact mistaken. I realize that individual departments set their own standard, but know that the Louisiana post mandate is actually lower than 1 day, it is 4 hours. That is the minimum requirement for every department in the state of Louisiana. If you think that the overwhelming majority of departments don't do the very minimum then you really have no idea what you are talking about. And yes, I know there are states other than Louisiana. I know many officers that seek training away from their department because what they get isn't even close to enough.

Another needles tragedy that starts over fricking weed!!! One of the biggest issues in police reform, in my opinion, is simply the legalization of weed. For the love of god, just make it legal and tax it. People are going to smoke. The perp was even acquitted of the weed charge, so that makes this whole terrible situation senseless. Get rid of the criminalization of weed and watch these type of interactions go away.
