Again we are not talking about the heavyweight champion of the world. A cop should be able to defend himself against an off duty fireman long enough for backup to come

The officer actually did not employ and strikes, empty hand tactics, to the subject so I thought this board would be happy. Generally cops are bashed for "abusing" people. This is a good example of why officers are often quick to defend themselves. Perhaps those of you that are somewhat objective will stew on this.

No, but I'm not a cop. Police are trained to handle situations like this.

BTW, I think the killing was justified.

I put partial blame on the pusscake videoing and talking down to the cop in his effeminate voice.

Instead of assisting the officer, who WAS- despite what some think here- clearly in a struggle for his life, he stands there like a character on Big Bang Theory proving what a wimp he is.

I consider that disgraceful. And I do believe that the idiot firefighter would be alive, right now- and the cop wouldn't have to carry the burden of killing him for the rest of his life.

And before anyone says 'that's not his job'- I say "bullshite". It was the RIGHT THING to do, in this case- and no one present had the balls to do it. Sad.

I don't think you are supposed to assist the officers in this situation. Seems like a good way to get yourself hurt/killed

So that they subject can get a running start at you? I don't know if you think before you post sometimes. Do you honestly believe all of this has not been considered by every police agency in this country. The best and safest way to handle subjects has become policy through decades of experience. When something works it is added and when something fails it is removed.

It's impossible to train anyone for every situation that occurs. Every single one is different. To assume that every cop is trained to handle every single permutation of every single situation that could possibly occur is just.....I don't even know what word to use.

By the fireman that every cop in the world should be able to beat up or by the officer who's life you are saving?

You arent, but the cop clearly asked for civilian assist, at that point he was allowed to assist the cop. I dont but alot of blame on the camera man, but i think some should fall on his feet. He thought he was being clever filming for police "brutality"

Not to mention leave his hands free to get hold of a concealed weapon. There's a reason they put you in cuffs.

Either one I guess. I was responding to the guy who said it was disgraceful to not help the cop. Doesn't seem worth it to me to break up a fight and get yourself hurt/killed.

the cop was within his rights and the people filming should be charged with obstruction of justice. They distracted the cop allowing the drunk to gain position.

I actually fully agree with you on this. The two filming yelled at the cop a second before the firefighter turned him over and they clearly distracted the cop as he even looked up and yelled to them that he was alone. They should be charged with obstruction.

Don't get your feelings hurt. I'm saying it was justified but have dealt with JPD enough to know how they deescalate confrontations successfully, and it rarely if ever involves officer violence.

Not sure where you heard that- but I never have.

I would submit to you that some chances are worth taking. This is about as good an example as you'll find where some assistance could have made a life-saving difference. This LEO didn't WANT it to come down to this.

Depends. Sometimes they'll ask for your help, other times you're interfering.

You must be a better person than I. No way am I jumping in to break up a fight between a cop and a guy I don't know.

Drunk people are the worst to fight. They give no fricks.

Well, sure- but I don't think this was one of those times.

Just my opinion, though.

I am sure this officer has been involved in too many of those situations to count as well. Most officers have. This one just didn't work out.
