What gear do you propose they forego?

In my rural area in the late 80's we called the new city cop Bulletproof as he was the only one that wore one. And it was under his uniform so he just looked puffed up.

This area is no more violent today than it was then yet the city and county are outfitted exactly the same as those in the video. They look like they are ready to assault Falluja.

And they have an MRAP coming.

I’m pro 2nd amendment but I don’t think the local boys in blue should be running around town with their AR’s on display. Do you?

Seems pretty obvious they don't need all that gear.

Or are you just stupid?

The local police walk around your town holding AR's?

I doubt they are... but if so, you are saying you want police to dress in full bright orange uniforms and carry only pistols?

I hate that dick wads like this overshadow the 99%+ positive encounters LE have each day.

Serious question - more dick head cops or teachers fricking students?

If it's so obvious they don't need all the gear then you should be able to easily name the items they don't need.

Bright orange....

Don't know what they wear in your town, but around here police are blue and county are brown.

Is this supposed to be an answer to my question to you, or are you chiming in on the other guy's post?

No I'm not.

Funny how you can't even answer a simple question that you previously deemed to be so obvious

Yes. The militarization of the police is a big issue.

The uniform is "militarized" for a reason. It's the best way to carry all the gear (radio, taser, baton, gun, handcuffs, magazines, etc.)

Your standard traditional uniform w/ a duty belt is terrible in just about every aspect for movement and ergonomics.

Humans weren't designed to carry all that weight on their hips. Load distribution is key. Many a cop has found that out through back problems later in their career.

And yes, lack of physical fitness also plays a factor, that cannot be denied.

But to say militarization is a big issue is totally blown out proportion. We live in America. There's a high probability that a hardened threat (suspect with long rifle, hard plate body armour) could be encountered.

This isn't Disneyland. The problem comes when sufficient training and policy isn't implemented and followed.

^^^ this is exactly why I challenged those two guys to explain what gear cops should forego. And as expected they had no answer but changing uniforms to bright orange

The last thing they expected was that the body shop they assaulted the guy in would be owned by redneck libertarians with cloud storage security cameras.

Had the guy stolen from the body shop, they probably would have been pissed that he didn't get hit a few more times... Perspective I guess...

Cops carry all that gear partly because of dumb asses like BuckyCheese. If a cop responded and didn't handle the call exactly the way the Bucky Monday morning QBs like, they would be the first to chime in, "Yeah, well, the cop should have used a (inserts name of some police gear not on the cop's belt)!".

Considering there were 5 of them in on this I think it is safe to say it's not just 1% or less that are bad as so many claim.
Not to mention the others who would of and probably tried to covered it up had it not been caught on video

Magazines? Boys Life, People, or maybe a Jughead. No wonder they spend so much time in the can.

Those cops didn't help themselves at all in that verbal exchange they had with the mechanics.

"He was under arrest...yeah, we can punch him."

Yikes.

I thought "conduct unbecoming" referred to the punching, but the article says it was because he lied on the report. So, the punching was deemed ok I guess. Good to know.
