Technically, if you're reporting a famous Louisiana speed trap on Waze, aren't you doing the same thing?
Posted on 1/31/25 at 9:39 am to Jim Thorpe
PEOPLE: give the officer your license and regs. THEN: SHUT UP. don't answer any questions.
example: "oh, I didn't know it was illegal during the day". you just deemed yourself guilty.

but they also said you have to follow the law about not doing it within 500 ft of oncoming traffic and you could be charged with interfering with police operations.
The guy was dumb for admitting it on body cam.
He should have said nothing. Literally nothing except, "I invoke my right to remain silent."
And then in court he should have claimed that he had been having trouble with his highbeams working and was just randomly testing him. There's no way the officer could have proved that he intended to warn other drivers.
He might have lost anyway, but at least he would have had a much better chance.
Probably no way around the registration charge.
No telling how much he had to spend on appeal to get it overturned.

Not all cops are bad, but that one’s a fricking a-hole, and most cops would probably agree.

I agree, but I wouldn’t fight with a cop no matter how out of line he is. Record it and use it for your day of court.

The hiring age for a police officer needs to be a minimum of 30.
Maybe make that the minimum age they hit the street and let them spend 5+ years working desk duty, paperwork, jails, actually learning the laws...

I have watched a ton of these police interaction videos. Age isn't really dependant on cops doing the job correctly. There should be public verifiable recourse, scorecard if you will, for cops who violate a person's civil rights. Not just ones ending up in a lawsuit but the charges that are brought and baseless and dismissed by the DA or never filed to begin with. Like obstruction charge for ID refusal.

Officer, (in court and surprising him) Can you prove it was a high beam and not just activating the lights? Or the daytime running lights. Boom.

God, so many cops are assholes.

Thing is, the guy barely even laughed.
Cops get butt hurt when you don't cower in fear at their mere presence.
Their egos can't handle you speaking to them like they are just another person.

Seems like warning of a speed trap is actually in the public service because it gets people to slow down, which is the point of speeding laws.
Of course we know speed traps are really about revenue generation so that's why it's against the law but rationally warning people is probably a good thing.

Guy lost on the flashing light argument and had the signed registration charged dismissed. Cop was not reprimanded.
He won his appeal.

I appreciate he was being honest with the cop. I think at one point he actually said sorry or something similar. This cop was ridiculous and his conviction was overturned after an appeal.

how are you gonna record he when you are by yourself, i didnt say i was gonna fight him, he threatened to beat me up out of view of the car camera, bunch of bootlickers on here

get losing on the flashing light argument. As dumb as that is (especially in the day time), I get that it's a law and why it's in place.
Yeah, I don't get it either. I know that I flash my high beams to truckers who have passed me to let them know that they are clear of me and can get in front of me. According to this cop that is illegal as well?

Enough of them are bad to where you have to treat every police interaction with suspicion and caution.
