Say leaving it readily accessible in a home with a deranged individual.
Leaving it unattended in an unlocked car.
You're reaching and it's pathetic.

One of those situations was Newtown, the other was a poster that had his gun used in a murder. One teen shot the other after getting the gun out of his unlocked truck.

And how do you do that without stepping on the necks of those who would be legal owners? The background checks system currently means nothing so there is nothing to be gained by expanding it (see states that already require UBC's). Penalties to gun owners who are victims of criminal theft certainly doesn't work. 70% of them get their guns through friends, family, and illicit channels anyway.
Also, I don't pretend to have a magic pill that fixes this. To me, ignoring the situation and just blaming "criminals" is burying our head in the sand.

Yeah, people should be held responsible for losing their guns...it happens too often.

So we shouldn't blame criminals for crime??
Oh I get it, you're the type of person who thinks banning things that are bad for us is a good thing

I would bet she, of all people, wished she had them locked up a little better. Gonna be hard to prosecute a corpse though.

Is it common for people to leave their guns in the library while they go outside to smoke? Do you have a criminal stats for this?

Whose ignoring what here? You are ignoring the rather well substantiated fact that the absolute overwhelming majority of gun-owners are very responsible. Better than 99% on any given year. Criminals are in fact responsible for the overwhelming majority of firearm-related homicides. So blaming them makes a lot of sense to anyone honest enough to look at the numbers.

Byte Me leaves his at Dollar General all the time.
Honestly, you would be shocked at how irresponsible people are with guns.

Are there stats for this? If not, how do you know this to be true...
