Dozens of schoolboys infected with HIV after secret blood trial, inquiry hears

quote:

More than 50 boys were infected with HIV after being secretly enrolled in a trial of "polluted" blood products, the Infected Blood Inquiry has been told.

The boys were all pupils at Treloars College in Hampshire, a specialist disability school that offered places to haemophiliacs in the 1970s and 1980s.

I agree that it's evil but modern medicine has only truly progressed due to this types of unethical studies. Look at everything we learned from the nazi's following their experimentation. Same thing from earliest days of medicine in the US and the craziness that happened then?

Maybe Spock was right? The needs of the many outweigh the needs of few.

This little tidbit has to have received a question or two in post mortems.

This probably happens all of the time all over the world.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear about it happening in the US today.

A shite storms a coming.

I mean, it seems a tad sketchy:

quote:

made by US pharmaceutical manufacturer Speywood Laboratories.

quote:

"We don't know for certain if it was in the first eight months of the trial, but it was definitely in the American products, because I was very sick from that batch."

quote:

he almost only received American blood products, and a nurse at the clinic told him these products were responsible.
