That would make a lot of sense. I thought they might be pilings, but I didn't realize they went that deep. For a large construction project like that, it's understandable. Thanks OT, I will now have to find something else to keep from killing myself.

prob bridge piles
The state (LADOTD) usually uses larger square piles, you get the same load capacities with one 24" pile that it take 2 or 3 12" piles to effect.
It takes a bigger crane to handle & drive a larger pile but in the end it's usually more efficient (less lifts, quicker casting schedules, etc.) for the overall project.

Fixed. Educate me on terminology. Pile(s), piling(s)... Are these interchangeable?

It's the highlight of my day seeing these long concrete sticks and thinking of the endless possibilities. Who are they for? What do they do? Why do they need so many???
So why do you seek answers? The wondering is what you enjoy, an answer would end that. Just enjoy the mystery, bro.

pile's and piling's are interchangeable
"i need some pilings installed!"
"what kind of piles, concrete, steel or timber?"

Pretty sure those are coming from the plant off Perkins. They frick up the intersection at highland all the time by getting stuck in the middle instead of waiting for enough space to fully turn on highland

Should I just yell at the truck drivers across the interstate as they pass in the opposite direction? Maybe I should go camp out on the other side and flag one down. Surely they'll stop and answer my question.
My post was clearly tongue in cheek. Yes, I'm curious. Do I really need to know. No. Just something that I see every day, and I came here and got my answer. Grow up. Hillbilly.

damn. 490? I interned at a deep foundations company for a while and I think the biggest project I worked on was like 200. Couldn't imagine doing double that.

We drove 8,000 90' steel H piles at Marathon in Detroit.
