I'm looking to get 1-2 yards of concrete poured, too small for a truck, but too much to mix by hand. There used to be a place in BR called U-Cart concrete for small batches, but they have been closed since the flood. Anybody got any ideas?

What exactly are you trying to do?

Anything that's going to require any kind of reinforcement?

It's not too small for a truck. You'll just have to catch them on a day where they won't mind coming out to you b/c they have other jobs and concrete in the mixer. No they aren't going to put a yard or two in the truck just for you.

and frick renting a mixer.
I had the same problem you do, and i rented a mixer. Dumb. Nothing iike loading 2000 lbs worth of 50lb bags into the back of your truck, then unloading them, then pouring them into a mixer. You're back will be dead. my problem was i couldn't have the truck get to where i needed the concrete, so i either had to haul it from the truck, or mix it myself. Should have hauled it myself. There's a device you can rent that's like a wheel barrow but it's bigger and motorized. makes transporting the concrete much easier.

There are some places you can ask about doing something similar to the U-Cart stuff. It's not cheap though. I remember someone having something like that when i was calling around about 3 years ago, and it wasn't the u-cart company.

carrying 40 bags wrecked your back? Jesus you need to learn to exercise more.

OP rent a mixer and do it yourself.

I am extending a patio and driveway. I don't want to rent a mixer because frick that noise. My patio is in my back fenced in yard, so I am probably looking at renting a buggy to get it back there. I will have it formed and reinforced, just looking for an easy way to get concrete down. Was really hoping to find another "by the yard" place in town. I guess I will call around and see if I can catch a truck in my area.

Ready mix guys will bring you 1-2 yards but there is usually a min load charge unless you're a contractor or know the salesman well. Typically it's a 4 yard minimum charge.

2 summers ago I loaded/unloaded and mixed 2400lbs in 60 lb sacks all by myself. And im not a big guy by any means. but I am mentally tough and don't lift with my back

yeah, picking up 40 bags of 50lb concrete to put in my truck, picking them back up and walking them over to where i was pouring, and then picking them all back up high enough to slowly pour into the mixer, in the span of about 2 hours made me pretty frickin soar the next day, as an in shape, strong 28 year old.

I could see how carrying 40 50-pound bags of concrete would be tiring on your back.

You just wanted to be a jackass or brag about how you can divide 2,000 by 50.

U-Cart went out of business after the flood I think. I used them once. By the time i got it home, a lot of the concrete on the bottom had started to harden and was useless

You can still get it delivered, they will just charge you a "small delivery" charge, usually between 60-100, which is probably worth it...

Just figure out how to get use out of the 4yd min like add a sidewalk or pad for your trash can etc

Or talk to a neighbor and see if they need some too

I did that when i built my fence about 10 years ago when i was in really good shape. I'd say i'm pretty experienced at mixing concrete, since i did that for two summers building fences when i was younger.

as an adult with money, i'm not doing that anymore, which is why i recommend the OP not mix it himself.
