Why would you worry about maintenance costs if you're only keeping it for 80k miles?
There will likely be nothing more than oil changes in that span

Are you responsible for maintenance? If not, I'd go with Jeep.
That said, I've heard really good things about the Highlander and Toyota's run like a top... I'm guessing better gas mileage (that I'm not sure you will or won't have to pay for?)

Toyota, Ford, Jeep.

Didn't most mechanics refer to the Explorers from the past as "Exploders"?
At least I've heard that term from both my mechanic and my husband's mechanic. I'm assuming the newer ones are made better than those from the past.

Jeep
Ford
Toyota - If it was a 4 running that would be the hands down winner but that thing looks like a chick car.

You've already paid for some of that Jeep without your consent, so that would be the bottom of my list.
Consumer Reports loves the Highlander so that would get my first test drive. Explorer next.

Jeep is RWD, that's what Id choose.
I know the highlanders are FWD, and for some reason I think the explorers are now too. But I really don't know.

I'm sure they've figured out the kinks by now.
