It's not your thing to not be with your husband at all times in a social setting?

And ask the guy who ex wife did these things. Just has the potential for unnecessary drama.

So one dude who implied that his wife cheated on him at a "happy hour" for work is enough for you to say: "Call it off!"?

I mean, maybe they're marriage sucked. Maybe he cheated on her because she went drinking all the time and these happy hours weren't quarterly. Maybe nothing happened and he's full of shite. The level of insecurity of some people on this board is astonishing.

My wife used to go on business trips with *gasp* coworkers! (Ewwwwww!) They used to go to bars and restaurants to woo *gasp* CLIENTS. AND THESE CLIENTS WERE... MEN! (omgomgomg)

Didn't care. Know why? My wife and I have a strong relationship. I know she won't cheat on me. And she knows I won't cheat on her. Particularly with a coworker.

I admittedly don't work with a bunch of sad saps so it's go have a couple beers and leave. It's a professional service firm so people understand what these things are for. Now a couple of guys that im actual friends with from my office may do something after, but the work covered happy hour no one gets sloppy.

It's not your thing to do things without your spouse? Sounds like a codependency issue. That's not healthy.

Oh, don't get me wrong, i'm sure some coworkers do go to Happy Hour and get drunk.

But to act like saying not every situation is that kind of Happy Hour is trolling is pretty out of touch with reality IMO.

Right. Many people travel for work. Imagine every time you go to a conference... many women and men you won't likely see anytime soon.

There is always the opportunity to do wrong, but if you have a strong marriage and good morals, it won't be an issue.

I like SO free happy hours with my co-workers but you know what I like even more?

When my SO has them with her co-workers.

I can make something for dinner that she doesn’t like and have a drink by myself on the deck. Glorious.

It was a simple question.

Let’s make this easy for you. It’s a work function designed to foster a communal spirit and increase morale. You don’t want or need to drag spouses and SO’s into that. It is not a social function. That is what company Christmas parties are for. It’s not that difficult of a concept.

Fun fact. These events are a big deal in Japan except they go all night and they get fricked up. In fact, you are expected to get hammered. Anyone can say anything to anybody, including to the bosses, and they aren’t supposed to hold any animus about it after the event. It is meant to clear the air of any lingering issues. Buddy of mine went to one in Tokyo while he was at Corporate and said it was crazy. People bitching out their bosses over office stuff and coming to work the next day like it didn’t happen.

Yep. And don't get me wrong, I would love to have drinks with my wife and friends after work. I used to do that with some frequency before kids. And I like going home from work and being with my family. They are why I still persist. But to do a happy hour with coworkers once in a while just isn't a big deal and can be a welcome respite from the wearying times.

Of course it does happen, but there are posters in here acting like going and spending literally one hour in a bar 4 times a year is a huge deal because their family is invited. It's not like they are going to a rave or Reggies on Friday night.
