Do you even understand what it is?

What's so difficult about 5 groups of 3? The first number is the number of groups, the second is the number of items per grouping. Who wasn't taught that in school? I went to private catholic school and learned that
I agree that that's what 5x3 means, but what's the point of forcing a kid into one way of thinking? Math problems can be solved in many different ways. If a kid understands the commutative property of multiplication before it's taught in class, then let the kid answer the question that way.

i like that kids are being talk the real core basics of matrix algebra.
It's very essential and makes things a lot easier once you get to other parts of math.
especially in 8th-12th grade when you have to solve
2x+3y=10
5x+2y=21
solve for this systems of equations

The question below those two about the cupcakes shows the point that those questions were making.
this number this many times.
Five times, three.
4 rows, of six ones.
7 bags, of four cupcakes.
It's teaching them to take out info from a word problem and handle it accordingly.
If you did it another way, in dealing in 2D matrix space, then the answers the kid gave would be wrong.

yep m x n matrices m-rows by n-columns.

This doesn't look like a problem with common core. It looks like an issue with a moronic teacher.

This so why this is important.
Ask your girlfriend:
Dude how many times did you suck how many dicks ?
If you don't understand common core,
1*52 and 52*1 are the same.
If you do understand you buy Valtrex and a dental dam and get ready for one hell of a blowjob or marry a girl who just loves sucking dick.

I know this about common core. A friend of mine's kids attend the lab school and in summary, this "new concept" of common core math has been taught at the lab school for years. It allows students to develop different ways of thinking so if you complain about it and don't think your kid should have to do it, then you have low expectations for your kid.

You are being sarcastic right? Thanks to Mississippi our education system isn't dead last.

That kids going to be confused as frick when they try to teach the transitive property

The U.S. has the dumbest math students in the world. And it ain't getting any better after that shite I just saw in that picture. Got a damn minus because the rows and columns weren't matched with the problems. Holy shite this country is going straight to hell.

We should look at Finland's education system, they are ranked first in the world. Students are not given homework until high school, there is a teacher and I guess something like a teacher's aid in every classroom. The kids who need extra attention is helped by the teacher's aid to help them get caught up so that the primary teacher doesn't have to hold the whole class back bc of the students who needs extra help.
