As an agnostic, what's scarier to me than death is the possibility that perhaps I will have another life some day that I don't want. What if I am reborn as a poor kid in Palestine or central Africa? What if I am born to a liberal SJW family and I grow up to be transgender? All of that would suck arse.

What I am getting at is what if this life isn't all? What if we are not necessarily reincarnated, but go through another cycle of life?

If you believe the universe is infinite (most physicists believe it is), then that means that anything that can happen WILL happen and not only will it happen but it will happen in an INFINITE number of ways and variations. In another universe Toddy is straight and slams OT 10's daily. In another universe OWEO is everyone's favorite poster with the most upvotes in history.

If you want to really go down the rabbit hole, look into Boltzman brains. Ludwig Boltzman was a German physicist who gave us the laws of thermodynamics in the late 1800's. He did a thought experiment where he determined that if we leave matter alone for long enough, it would randomly aggregate and create a conscious human brain. The implication is what if you or I am a Boltzman brain right now? If the universe is infinite, there's a good possibility we might be (if not now then in the future).

If death means that's it forever, I am sorta cool with that. At least I won't be thrown any surprises. But I am not so sure that is the case.

Coming to terms with your mortality

I did.

Got diagnosed with End Stage Liver Disease. Spent a couple of years getting treated, got on the waiting list, and then it was just a matter of whether I'd get to the top of the list before the disease progressed too far. It was always odds that I'd get a transplant in time, but definitely no sure thing. I did end up getting one, but it did get kind of scary towards the end of the wait.

It definitely causes you to examine things. Make sure your priorities are where they should be. Make sure you are the best you can be in your relationships. Definitely helps you think beyond yourself and about others.

For me, it ended up being a plus. I changed careers. My relationships with my loved ones deepened (they were never bad, but they definitely got better and deeper). All turned out good and left me with a ton of gratitude.

I’m the exact opposite of you. I’m terrified I WON’T die and ever know peaceful oblivion. I’ll never understand those of you that cling to this life like an infant clings to his mamas breast.

I'm a Hitchens anti-theist so I certainly look at this time on earth as being all there is, and it's plenty. I'm so grateful to have been given an opportunity to experience it and on top of that to be born in one of the best countries in the world.

The way I've been able to deal with the end is by focusing on my retirement. A time that I assume will be the best period of my life, still in good health but no longer having to work. Five, ten, or twenty years of doing what I want, when I want, while living on the investment income I've saved over my career.

When you have that in between you and death, it gives getting older something to look forward to.

You younger guys should keep that in mind.

Used to keep myself up a night thinking about it when I first moved away from home. Realized it was dumb. Earth has been here for Millions of years before us and will continue on for millions of years after. We won’t be here forever. Just took it upon myself to enjoy life, and be a good person. And after my grandparents, parents, and older relatives pass away, I’ll be ready to join them. The only thing is I hope I go out via a disease or some age related issue. I’ll be pissed if I die because of a drunk driver or thug murderer.

What does the Word of God say? The best way to know about salvation is through the Bible’s teaching. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

You can know where you are going when you die. Don't be an Agnostic. Become a believer in Jesus Christ.

I went to church weekly until I was 18. I stopped believing around 12 but still had to go until I was an adult. It never spoke to me.

Sometimes when I’m in severe pain I just stop and think.... meh I’ll be dead one day. Pain is just temporary. Enjoy the fact that you can feel something.

It's not as simple as saying okay I believe now.

I agree. Telling someone to just believe or saying Jesus is your answer isn't' very helpful.

I've had trouble with the word believe. But I've found out the closest synonym to it is rejoice. Believing the Good News of the Gospel simply means to rejoice in hearing it.

It's like being on death row and then the governor calls and pardons you. That's very good news. It's time to rejoice! It's time to celebrate!

We don't search out and find Jesus. We are the helpless lost sheep, we are the helpless lost coin. Jesus finds us! Jesus came down to Earth, we didn't go up to heaven to find him. Jesus died for you. That is the Good News. Rejoice in it.

I want there to be a God but I only think there is a 1% chance of that being true.

Jesus died for the non believers. And God doesn't have to save you even if you believe. Our believing doesn't save us, it is his dying that saves us. And believing isn't up to you. The Holy Spirit believes for you. "By nature we are spiritually blind, dead, and an enemy of God, as the Scriptures teach; therefore, "I cannot by my own reason and strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him."

This is just the 44-16 effect talking. Don't worry, it's common right now with Bama fans. Bama will win again and you will want to live forever. You just have to wait until Dabo dies.

Damn! I have that too. About once a week I cannot fall asleep. As I drift asleep I frantically pop up in a panic like I’m dying.
