It's very possible to be .08 and not be buzzed.

Don't tell Darth that. Driving at .08 is the exact same thing as shooting a gun down the street.

I wonder how many highway fatalities are at the hands of someone with between .05-.08 BAC. I'd be willing to wager a very small fraction.

And I'd also wager that only a small fraction of those were caused due to the alcohol as opposed to just normal driving conditions.

I always get a kick out of all the small government conservatives in these threads cheering on more gov power.

Don't drink before/while you drive. It's pretty easy to avoid a DWI. People who bitch about this are pathetic.

Do you uber home every time you have a drink at dinner? Do you uber to the store after having a beer?

That's all the DUI system has become. It's also why cities like Baton Rouge and Lafayette were leery of Uber because they didn't want DUIs to go down and thus to lose funding.

Yup, most college towns have fought tooth and nail against ridesharing as well. Anyone with a brain can connect the dots on that. Utah is the worst offending state as far as reps who preach small government but want to control every aspect of your life

Drinking and driving is a damn dumb thing to do but I feel this is the tax collectors way of tightening the noose.

Not if the Restaurant association has anything to say about it. MADD is running this country.

With all of the ride sharing apps, Uber, Lyft, Taxi , friends why would anyone drive even after 1-2 drinks now days.

Take a freaking cab

Bc a grown arse man usually isn't intoxicated in any meaningful way after 1-2 drinks. If they really want to do something, just have a law that all new cars must have a breath thingy and all DUIs have mandatory jail time and license revocation.

Doesn't Utah have some estranged drinking laws at bars/restaurants? Don't you have to be a member (in terms of filling out a membership application) to go to a bar? At a restaurant, must you order food and receive the food before receiving your beverage?

The biggest chub will be coming from the attorneys, as an LEO we just want to impaired drivers who pose a risk to others off the road.

I don't know all the laws but Utah's drinking laws are def the worst in the country because of the Mormons. I know they've been trying to reform them some to attract more tourism since Utah is a beautiful state.

I'm ok this this but I think anything under a .1 should be a misdemeanor. But throw the book at anything over.

Come on man, you know that's not true. Do you realize how much money police departments make through OT, grants, etc... court system, everything. It's a huge racket all around.

Lafayette needs good attorneys like yourself to fight this problem!
