What's the point of the chip if there's still a magnetic strip om the card? Seems these card companies need to pick one or the other.
They are picking the chip. But are still accommodating the older machines.
The chip doesn't share/transmit the card number/valuable information. It creates and transmits an encrypted transaction key for that ONE unique transaction. It's just harder to steal/skim/copy the actual card information they use to then replicate them in Eastern Europe.
Sammy's in Zachary a few years ago got hit HARD by using a wide open wifi network to transmit card data from bar area to server in the office. A few people I worked with ended up with charges on replicated cards in Venice Italy. $1200 Purses and shite like that.

I just got hit with an attempted charge at a Murphy Express in Raleigh, NC. Guess they just needed gas.

My buddy dropped his wallet outside Illusions years ago. His credit card showed up with some big charges in St Louis and Chicago from Victoria Secret stores.
That was hard to figure out a travellin' stripper was responsible.

I still have my card though. No clue how someone skimmed it.
Chase always texts immediately though so I denied it then called and got a new card ordered.

One more nail in the coffin for cursive, btw.

Nope, now they will have some extra step on the machine to type in your "tip" before you can pull your card out......Even more awkward than walking away before they realize you left nothing.

It's not like anyone ever verifies the signatures anyway.
Exactly.
I feel like the signature at the register is only for contesting purchases after the fact. Even then, with how lenient customer service is with credit cards, I feel like I could tell them I didn't make purchases that actually did and they wouldn't even check or verify.
