My grades jumped significantly once I decided to hand write all of my notes rather than just take notes on a computer or using a power point outline.

Well, no crap. The purpose of the lap top is to have something to do rather than listen to the boring lecture. The students that are goofing off on a laptop are the students that only attend class because it's mandatory. When you make something a requirement, some people will only be motivated enough to do the minimum required to meet it.
At LSU, attendance in many classes is mandatory, and if one has too many absences, they fail.

Almost every single meeting I have with companies trying to sell us shite, they send over a power point or spec sheet or some shite like that so we can have more info/questions ready for the meeting.
But yeah I guess your meetings at McDonalds probably don’t have that.

When I was in school every brought desktops to college for their room and was just happy to have a T1 connection and not the 56k their parents had

I cannot learn complicated material from a computer screen, I print it, read it, underline, and make notes on the papers. While I could do the same thing on my computer it takes more steps, and requires me to stop thinking about the subject matter, and think about the keystrokes.

I always took notes by hand in class and then typed them up later on. Typing them up neatly helped me to study better for the test.

This was my hypothesis 14 years ago when I was one of the only people in class not busting out the laptop in class. Graduated in 2008 for reference and discussion, but my time was the height of "Holy shite I can take notes with my computer." by 2005 it was almost weird not to.
I always learned better when I wrote down what I learned, so I completed undergrad in 2008 never having used a computer to take notes or even pass the time in class.

Personally, I just preferred to write notes in my notebooks then type it up back home. Just found it worked better to comprehend and condense the material. Maybe I’m old school
