If you were on the swim team scene a long time ago, Coach Robelot was The Man. Then came the infamous split between the Y Nauts and Tiger Aquatic (Coach Woodburn). He was a heckuva coach and could be rather fiery in nature. His obit was rather modest:

quote:

Alfred Louis Robelot Sr, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Thursday, August, 15, 2019 at the age of 87. He graduated in 1952 from Tulane University with a degree in Physical Education and was an All American lineman on the 1952 football team. After graduating, he served as a football coach, swimming coach, and teacher for almost 60 years in Coachella, California and Baton Rouge. He is survived by his brother, Walter; son Alfred Robelot Jr (Denise) of Baton Rouge; daughter Cora Freddie Robelot Blocker Alford (Kenneth) of Jackson, MS; grandchildren Reed, Trey, Lyle, Kris, and their families; longtime companion Lulu Magee; and nephew Les Stockwell of New Orleans. Preceded in death by his parents Raoul and Myrtie Robelot; brother Buddy; and sisters Sybil and Jean. A visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, is scheduled for Sunday September 1, 2019 from 10:00 am until a Memorial Service at 12:00 pm.

I knew him in HS. Back then I thought he was about 65 years old. This was in 1985

Knew him at Tara in the early 00s... RIP Coach

ETA: I can't believe he was pushing 70 back then... he had more energy than many of his students!

Was at Tara in the early 90s and he was a hell of a good coach. Had a really funny, dry sense of humor and alwyas worked his arse off to be in good physical condition.

Saw him a few years back at an archery event (he also taught that and was damn good too) and he looked exactly the same as he did when I'd last seen him 20+ years earlier.

Great man.

I graduated Tara in 2002 and thought he was ancient back then...had no idea he was still alive to this point. He was a bow-legged sumbitch!
